IKEA sounds like another one of those companies I am not interested in doing business with.

Three executives at IKEA France, including the CEO, were charged on Tuesday in connection with allegations the company illegally used police files to spy on staff and customers, a judicial source told AFP.
Prosecutors launched a criminal probe in April 2012 following allegations that IKEA France paid for illegal access to secret police files to gain information about employees and clients, including about their court and police records and bank accounts.
Reports alleged IKEA France requested information on its own employees, including union members, the owners of certain car registrations and names associated with a list of mobile phone numbers
The judicial probe in Versailles was opened after a complaint was filed by labour unions.

We toured their store in Draper Utah a couple of years ago. Bought a few things. After reading this thread it will find the way of beans scab manufactured chocolates in this household. We will not buy one single item from them!

Hardships pile up as Ikea-vs.-Teamsters dispute drags on at Richmond store
A six-and-a-half-month labour dispute at Ikea’s Richmond store has turned Christmas into a bitter dream for picketing union member Alix MacDonald.

“A lot of people here are struggling. Some have had to go to the food bank,” said MacDonald, 46, gesturing towards other pickets at the Swedish furniture giant’s store on a sunny late-November afternoon.

“But Christmas isn’t about what’s under the tree. It’s about family. It’s about unity.”

Teamsters Join Delegation Calling on IKEA to End Lockout

The delegation traveled to Sweden to highlight the findings of the report, “How IKEA is Hurting Families: Report on the IKEA Lockout in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada.” The report outlines the findings of an International Fact-Finding Commission formed by UNI Global Union and the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) at the request of Teamsters Canada.

The report describes how far IKEA has departed from its original Swedish values. IKEA has locked out more than 300 workers at its Richmond store for more than six months because the workers exercised their legal right to vote down IKEA’s demands for a wage system that discriminates against workers and forces many workers to give up family health care benefits. The report calls on IKEA to end its lockout of workers and return to the bargaining table in good faith immediately. The report is available in A4 size (http://bit.ly/1iXdd8K) and in U.S. letter size (http://bit.ly/19hJUYy).

Richmond Ikea labour dispute heads into year two — with no end in sight

About 300 members of Teamsters Local 213 have been surviving on strike pay — the equivalent of about half their wages — since mid-May 2013 and are convinced the Swedish home furnishings giant is out to try and break the union now that they feel the matter has reached an impasse.

At issue is the status of 35 or so unionized workers who returned to their jobs early in the dispute. They have been expelled by the union, which has demanded they be removed from the workplace before the union workers return to their jobs should an agreement be reached.

“It looks like union-busting,” said Keith Austin, who has worked for Ikea locally for 27 years. “There’s certainly not an economic reason for Ikea to do this to the employees.

IKEA Canada To Pay Damages To The Teamsters Union
The British Columbia Labour Relations Board has upheld a complaint filed by Teamsters Local Union 213 against Ikea Canada. In an award issued July 24, the Board concluded that Ikea violated the law when it negotiated directly with workers and offered to all workers who accepted to cross the picket line better working conditions (including a $2.50 an hour premium and a $500 bonus) than the working conditions that it had offered to the Teamsters at the bargaining table. The Board also affirmed that Ikea negotiated in bad faith. The Board ordered Ikea to cease and desist from contravening the law and from committing further unfair labour practices. The employer was also ordered to pay damages to the Teamsters.

Ikea, workers' reading of LRB ruling differ
Both sides in the near 16-month long labour dispute at the Richmond Ikea store are talking following a pair of Labour Relations Board rulings provided a split decision.

Anita Dawson, who represents the 300 or so workers belonging to Teamsters Local 213, said talks resumed with the Swedish furniture giant Monday, and bargaining is expected to carry over into next week.

Dawson disputed the company’s interpretation of one LRB recent ruling regarding the 35 employees who crossed the picket line and went back to work.

The Teamsters expelled those workers from the union for their actions and requested they be re-assigned to another store, or assume management positions.
