Default Miller Waste talks in conciliation

OWEN SOUND - Contract negotiation between Teamsters Local Union 879 and The Miller Group's waste division in Owen Sound have moved into the conciliation stage as they negotiate a first contract.

Teamsters business representative Marty Taylor said Monday that efforts to reach a first contract affect about 30 Miller employees in Owen Sound. They're the first Miller workers to unionize, the Teamsters said in October after employees voted to join the union.

“Overtime and health and safety will be the main issues during the bargaining for the group’s first collective agreement,” an October news release from the Teamsters said.

From experience these municipal contracts are a tough table, lots of no money talk and for sure the hours of work and overtime are huge issues. These vehicles are run to death for 5-7 years and suffer from lack of maintenance issues. Good luck guys the battle is worth it in the end.
