      Re: National Contract Negotiations Continue

This past week I had to drive from Wilmington, NC to central NJ. I had my wife keep a record of the number of carhaul rigs up and back. 9 union drivers, 8 around the DC and Balt area and 1 in NJ. 48 nonunion rigs with less than 10 hauling used cars. Does anyone else remember when you hardly ever say anything other than a union carrier, or am I just that old?
Has the IBT ever gotten a contract out west with Selland? Didn't they organize over a year ago?

Teamsters, Carhaul Employer Group to Reconvene

            November 17, 2015

The Teamsters National Automobile Transporters Negotiating Committee (TNATINC) will reconvene with the carhaul employer group this week to negotiate on the members’ behalf after carhaulers overwhelmingly voted to reject the national agreement and two supplemental agreements.

The negotiations come after local unions held meetings over the past few weeks with the carhaul members to discuss the recently rejected tentative agreement.

All carhaulers should continue to work as usual and the TNATINC will keep local unions and members updated.

This is the most info I have seen on the situation since I joined this site in 2009!

              Carhaulers Vote Down Awful Deal

Chrysler workers weren’t the only ones in the booming auto industry this fall to vote down a weak contract. Carhaulers—who transport new cars from auto plants and railyards to dealerships—slammed a concessionary deal, with 87 percent voting no in a mail ballot counted October 15.

The companies are “bursting at the seams now. They can’t haul enough cars,” said Fred Zuckerman, president of Local 89 in Louisville, Kentucky. “This isn’t the time you make concessions.”

The master agreement covers 4,000 Teamster carhaulers, mechanics, and yard workers employed by two major companies, Cassens and Jack Cooper.

For decades this was a solidly union industry. But in the late ’90s, the automakers and carhaul companies began colluding to shift work to new nonunion companies—and the Teamsters did little to fight back.

Teamsters, Employer Group Reconvene for Carhaul Negotiations

This week’s negotiations come after carhaulers voted to reject the national agreement and two supplemental agreements earlier this year. The negotiations also follow meetings that local unions held with carhaul members over the past few weeks to discuss the recently rejected tentative agreement.

This week, both sides discussed the issues that led to the rejection and TNATINC gave the employer group a formal proposal that was responsive to the concerns raised by the local unions and members. Both sides plan on meeting in early December to finish talks. In the meantime, all carhaulers should continue to work as usual. We will keep local unions and members updated at www.teamster.org/carhaul-2015

Carhaulers Say NO to Concessions, Job_Loss

Five weeks after carhaulers said Hell No to a concessionary contract by 87%, members have not heard anything on what the International union plans to do.
But while the Hoffa administration does nothing, carhaulers continue to build solidarity. One thousand members were on a Teamsters United conference call to talk about next steps. They are active on social media and organizing member-to-member to build even stronger solidarity. Teamsters United—strictly from campaign donations—sent a mailing to all carhaulers in mid-November on next steps and the future.
Members, many stewards and some gutsy local leaders have been clear about what it will take. First, get rid of the pay concessions that gut loading, fueling and incentive pay. With the auto industry humming, it’s no time for give-backs. Discard the concessionary pay scheme, and forcing drivers away from home for longer periods. Second, Job security. No weakening of the Work Preservation Agreement to allow subcontracting of so-called “overflow” union work. Third, bargain for the reasonable proposals members and locals have given to the negotiating committee—instead of just signing the company proposal.

Teamsters Make Progress at Carhaul Talks, More Negotiations to be Scheduled

The Teamsters Union and carhaul employer representatives continue to discuss and exchange proposals for a new national contract that are responsive to the concerns of the membership.

Based on the talks just concluded last week, we can report some tentative progress. Many of the contract proposals have been resolved, but both sides still need to focus on the economic issues.

The parties have decided to suspend talks over the holidays so the union can better evaluate additional operating information that has been provided by the employer group. Both sides fully intend on resuming and completing the talks on a new NMATA early next year.

In the meantime, the union asks that all carhaul members continue to work as usual and look for updates once the parties resume talks in 2016.

Teamsters, Carhaul Employers to Resume Contract Negotiations

                      Finally some news!

The Teamsters National Automobile Transporters Industry Negotiating Committee (TNATINC) and carhaul employer representatives will reconvene this Wednesday, Jan. 13 and Thursday, Jan. 14 in Detroit to discuss and exchange proposals for a new national contract.

In December, both sides made progress toward a new tentative agreement. While several of the outstanding contract issues have been largely resolved, both sides are still evaluating serious and difficult economic issues.

Last month, the parties decided to suspend talks over the holidays so the union can better evaluate additional operating information that has been provided by the employer group. The goal is to complete the talks on a new NMATA early this year.

Teamsters, Carhaul Employer Group to Meet Again Soon for Negotiations
The national carhaul contract negotiations wrapped up this week with more talks to be scheduled in the near future.

“Both sides are working on difficult economic issues that are not easily resolved and the parties exchanged detailed proposals that require further evaluation,” said Kevin Moore, Director of the Teamsters Carhaul Division.

In the meantime, the union asks that all carhaul members continue to work as usual and look for updates.

This is the most dumbest contact talks I have ever seen in almost 40 years. Thay moved the contract date to have it in line with the car companies so we would have more power, what a joke. moved from June to Sept. and now 5 months later we still don't have any answers or even any good rumors,The companies wanted the running mile and they have for years cut out all the long haul stuff so what did they except when they brought us THE BEST CONTRACT EVER yeah ok voted down by 87%. This is what happens when they are more worried about the party in Vegas in june than trying to get us a good contract.Hey freight guys we know how ya all feel.Pension, cut rate contract's,nobody trying to get more places in the union,. Good grief get off your dead butt's and do what your supposed to do and they wonder why the can't get FedX or Conway/XPO. we can talk to all these guys till we are blue in the face but if the IBT isn't pushing for it forget about it.Semms like they have forgoten about the core indusrty TRUCKING. "nuff said sorry about the rant had a snickers bar better now every body stay safe and warm
