Default The Case for Unions to Support a Universal Basic Income

Well, this is interesting. Not sure how I feel about this right now. Such a new concept to me.

Andy Stern has been part of the U.S. labor movement for decades. He was formerly the president of the Service Employees International Union, which represents nearly 2 million American workers. During his tenure at the SEIU, he was hailed as “the nation’s most politically influential union president,” which made his resignation in 2010 something of a surprise.
I'm a product of the one-job-in-a-lifetime careers: I spent 38 years working for the same organization, a labor union called Service Employees International Union, where I started as a welfare worker and spent the last 14 years as its international president. During that time, the SEIU became the largest union in the U.S. and the fastest-growing union in the world. I was appointed to the Simpson-Bowles Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and spent all of my life trying to change worker's lives, mostly through the growth of labor unions, which I call the greatest anti-poverty program that America ever created.

Money for nothing doesn't end poverty as people will do less. Creating a system where you get money for nothing creates a danger for if and when the system fails then all the people fail with nowhere to go.

Create a Big Government and Die by Government.

So who do you propose to control the world's 7 + billion people ?
Most humans can't control themselves without help from others.

When one advocates little, less or no government, in all reality we should know that can't work in today's populace heavy world.
I believe we need government and laws.
What we need less of is corporate interference in our political system
Government should be of the people, for the people.
That's been lost, as it's now all for business and corporate interests.
strappy seems to feel any social programs, including Social Security is socialism.
    I disagree.

And what happen during the early years of this country what massive government gave away money to the people. None

It's We the people, and our Representatives are supposed to be peasants and we the people are the rulers..But not so much anymore

A growing government with increasing power will eventually take the freedoms and liberty from the people enslaving them to their totalitarian ways....ah too late you've been giving it away for sometime now. Under a false flag of whatever they say for the day, be it terrorism, global warming equality.......
The Government is consuming record tax receipts and have spent it all while running a deficit and yet what has changed...and where will we be when the goodtime money dries up and where will be the people that have become dependant on the system for money be..

True no argument from me. But That is what Big Government is and socialism is a path to a centralized government that takes from the people.

Social Security would work if it we your money but it is just given away to many that have not paid in. In that way it has become a entitlement destined to fail.

The universal income will.most.probably NOT apply to the elite. Therefore my answer is no. It's Communist type thinking. Its a very small group gaining all and everybody else spreading their wealth to everyone but the elite. ..Similar to where we've been heading with free trade...spread our wealth so few can enslave all.
    I'll read the article
    ..no time right now.

If I could get pay check and not work, why would I need a union?
I think some have been doing this for years.
as a teamster for 38 years, I think we should be careful what we ask for.

I would personally much rather see money going to job creation.
