  • Biden planning — again — to announce his candidacy, then visit Pittsburgh next week

I really want to see Bernie have a chance this time around and I feel like the same thing is going to happen. And since it does look like Biden is going to run, lets make this the official Biden Thread.

After days of uncertainty about the former vice president's plans, Joe Biden plans to announce his candidacy for president on Thursday, then visit Pittsburgh for an event on Monday.

Mr. Biden will be the 20th Democrat to enter the field when he makes his announcement — which will be delivered via video, according to a source close to Mr. Biden.

Then, at the beginning of next week, he will appear at an event at the Teamsters Local 249 hall in Lawrenceville at 4 p.m., another source with direct knowledge of the booking told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on Tuesday.

Mr. Biden was rumored to have scheduled an event in Pittsburgh this week on the same day as an announcement, but his plans reportedly shifted late Monday. The former vice president's campaign appears to be capitalizing on the intrigue, sending an email to supporters Tuesday urging them to sign up to be the "first to know" his plans.

My feeling on Biden is that he and Obama did some good for labor unions but not nearly enough. Bernie has been pounding the pavement for unions relentlessly for years. Let's give credit where credit is due!

Unions crank it up for Biden launch

I am really not happy about this. I like Biden to some extent, But Bernie is the man. Still Biden would be far better than Trump!
His political operation is still taking shape. There are concerns about whether he’ll be able to raise enough money to compete. He hasn’t run his own campaign in over a decade.

What Joe Biden does have, however, are strong ties to organized labor. And on the eve of his expected entry into a primary where 19 other Democrats have a head start, the former vice president is counting on his longtime union allies for a show of force.

t’s a powerful reminder that whatever hurdles lie ahead for Biden on the campaign trail, he enters the race with a reservoir of goodwill from a key Democratic constituency. But it also emphasizes the traditional nature of his candidacy in a diverse and crowded primary where that might not be an asset.
“Clearly many of us in the labor movement and in our union are friends with Vice President Biden. He’s been a true supporter of working people and their agenda. He’s someone who we’ve worked with a lot and we all admire tremendously,” Gerard told POLITICO, though he cautioned that a formal primary endorsement hasn’t yet occurred and must go through internal processes. “I can say that it would be an understatement to say that our members admire and look forward to working with Vice President Biden. He’s been strong in particular on infrastructure and jobs.”

No ABFwife...Go back and read what I stated on the Stop and Shop thread on this forum...It's all BS...Lip Service,Sound Bites, and Talking Points...This is a REPEAT on a one step lower argument that Corporate Democrats threw out to URGE disenchanted Progressives to vote for Hillary Clinton in 2016 because she was preferable to Donald Trump...Myself and millions of Progressives are not buying their BS anymore!!!!

How about a bit of REALISM here?...We have a political party that has so completely bankrupted itself to Corporate interests and to American imperialism overseas and that is no longer capable of offering voters real alternatives, except for Bernie Sanders and Tulsi Gabbard... These two article are just another restatement of the ''Lesser of Two Evils'' mantra that has been successfully used to PULL the Democrats to the RIGHT for over half a century now...The ''2 Party Monopoly'' on American politics must be BROKEN if there is ever to be a serious HOPE for political reform in this country and voting for ''FRICK'' in place of ''FRACK'' is NOT the answer!!!!

The very second ''Lunch Bucket Joe'' announces his candidacy for President,he RUNS to his favorite FUNDRAISERS....''CORPORATE CEOs and UNION BUSTERS''...Corporate Democrats don't give a DAMN about the Working Class...Don't fall for their BS...Not this TIME!!!!

I'm as cynical as the next guy and will go toe to toe with anyone concerning the REALITY of the American Ruling Elites, unaccountable criminality, and rampant corruption...BUT a Sanders presidency would be roughly a BILLION times better than the current one,IMO...Sanders,for all his flaws, and he has some, yes,is the CLOSEST America has come to a competent,electable,Center-Left Politician in Ages...

Make no mistake about it,the fact that Corporate Democrats would PREFER four more years of Trump to Sanders Progressivism illustrates the GENUINE threat his positions pose to Corporate Elites of BOTH parties and their various ENTRENCHED constituencies...IF...by some miracle he were to overcome the various corrupt hurdles of the Electoral Process,I would NOT be surprised to see Bernie succumb to a sudden heart attack or watch Air Force 1 disappear into the Bermuda Triangle...with that being said, most of Congress,Corporate Democrats and Republicans, and the Supreme Court will make it nearly impossible for Bernie to ENACT his policies...and then it's up to ''WE THE PEOPLE''...I have absolutely no illusions about the Corporate Elites when it comes to their GREED,ARROGANCE,and DECEPTION...

Most Corporate Democratic Politicians give lip service to identity politics to garner votes, but you legitimately know it's all BS because those same corrupt politicians are also in bed with Corporations,Wall Street, and of course, the MIC...The only solution is a vote for Bernie Sanders,Tulsi Gabbard, and someone else I should have mentioned earlier,Elizabeth Warren,or a VIABLE Third Party, but we will never have one because most Americans have been Brainwashed into the ''LESSER EVIL'' Paradigm...

Joe Biden polls so well because people are driven by unconscious emotions, not rationality or even their BEST interests...He REMINDS everyone of an affable, folksy, and endearingly relaxed somebody's ''Old Uncle Joe'' who always smiles and waves...so what's not to like?...Compassion,Integrity,and Intelligence DON'T matter much to people who AREN'T really paying attention to begin with and live on an intellectual junk food diet of identity politics and divide and conquer RED TEAM/BLUE TEAM Nonsense!!!!

I am NOT a Lesser-Evilist...Would anyone campaign for Dick Cheney to prevent Trump?...Would anyone campaign for Stalin to prevent Hitler?...I sure as hell wouldn't...

I will NOT vote for a corrupt, lying,Wall Street and Corporate shill, warmonger,Millionaire Democrat in order to PREVENT a corrupt, lying,Wall Street and Corporate shill, warmonger,Billionaire Republican from Winning...I will leave that up to someone's conscious...and then let me know how that strategy worked out...

If the Democrats ''AGAIN CHEAT'' Bernie Sanders out of the Democratic Nomination for President...Trump WINS in a LANDSLIDE...

Great article by Norman Solomon depicting the long and sordid political history of Good Old ''Lunch Bucket Joe''...

I think instead of complaining who might run against the republicans in 2020, let's sit back and wait for who exactly gets the nomination.

At this point in time, I wouldn't bet on any one particular candidate making it to the Democratic nomination.

Let's sit back and concentrate on which person will be the best choice to beat the republican's nominee.

OK, I "copped out" ! But that is my opinion and frankly, anybody is better then any republican at this point.
We must live with the system in place. We cannot change that in our life time.
Finally ... I vote for who is best, regardless of political affiliation.
Does that mean I vote democrat the majority of times ? You bet I do.

Personally I feel Biden and Bernie are too old. Time for fresh young and smart people to stand up for America ... all of America, not just a select few.
Like I said, I'll pick someone a little later, after the dust settles and we know which actual candidate will make it to the nomination.

                  Yep ... that's a cop out ...

I think we have seen there can be a grass roots candidate that has a better than average chance. It will take all of our efforts to make it happen though. Will it be enough?
