But If I had to park down the block I would drop the whole pallets down and roll them up to the front door to strip them. But in NYC you would get a ticket if you left the lift gait down unattended. So it was even more work using the pallet jack. Plus you had to pay for 2 parking spaces. I hated NYC.

Never did LTL deliveries in the city. Always truckload.. I loved it. That's where I learned to drive. Company I worked for had a place on West 28th street ..When I worked for Kennedy it was truckloads of sheetrock to all the construction sites.

When we would walk at the 8AM Red Star shape the steward would usually find work for us at other 560 jobs. I worked 1 day at L J Kennedy. They had me bobtail to Wakefern in Elizabeth and pull a pallet grocery load to the Fort Lee Shoprite. The only problem was it was a hand unload and piece count onto the conveyor belt rollers. To add insult it turned out Kennedy paid $1 an hour below scale. My shop steward said he didn't know and after that nobody wanted to go to Kennedy.

Kennedy was always below scale.. Reason I went there was to stay in the pension.. They hauled a lot for Shop-rite during the can can sales in January.. I never had to do it but then it was just a drop and hook..
