    Re: A positive image !

    Another trucker willing to help.

Trucker honored for rescuing young accident victim
Last winter, a routine day for truck driver David Hill suddenly turned dramatic when a teenager lost control of her car and skidded off an icy road.
On Jan. 30, 2020, Hill was on Interstate 29 just north of Fargo, North Dakota. He was coming from Winnipeg, Canada, heading for southern Wisconsin.
“There was some ice on the roads, so I was only going about 55 mph, under the speed limit,” Hill told the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA), which recently honored him for the rescue. “I was taking my time, cruising along. I saw a car come up beside me. She wasn’t speeding, but as she changed lanes to come back into the right lane, she hit a patch of black ice in the center of the road.”
Hill slowed down and watched as the car slid toward a snowbank on the right-hand side of the highway.
“She flew through it like a tornado and went about 100 yards off the road into a field,” Hill added.
The car spun out, flipped, then landed on the driver’s side.
“I stopped and bailed out of my truck in my running shoes and went barreling through snow up to my knees,” Hill said.
For his willingness to help the young woman, TCA presented Hill with a certificate, patch, lapel pin and truck decals. His employer, Challenger Motor Freight of Cambridge, Ontario, also received a certificate acknowledging its driver as a Highway Angel.

My post above ( #21 ) mentions St. Christopher truckers relief fund.
This story is about a terminally sick 5 year old boy. The child likes John Deere tractors and Legos. They ask for birthday cards to be sent to him.
Sometimes we must step back and count our own blessings.

Truckers, farmers unite to make terminally ill boy’s birthday special
All independent owner-operator Howard Salmon’s son Liam said all he wants for his fifth birthday on Thursday are birthday cards, John Deere tractors and Legos.
Truckers also rose to the challenge and donated money to ensure he had everything he needed on his special day. Liam’s aunt, Jennifer Syfert, has set up a GoFundMe page to help Liam battle diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), the tumor with which he was diagnosed in January.
Soon after hearing about Liam’s fatal diagnosis, Salmon said the St. Christopher Truckers Relief Fund quickly offered to help him.
“They made two of our house payments in January and February so I could take time off of the road to be with Liam during his radiation treatments,” Salmon said. “I know they have a lot of drivers and their families to help, too.”
The St. Christopher Truckers Relief Fund, a nonprofit 501(c)(3), was founded in 2008 to help professional truck drivers and their families with financial needs due to current medical problems.
Over the past 12 years, the organization, which relies on donations, has helped 3,066 truck drivers and has paid housing, insurance and utility bills amounting to more than $3.3 million.
Liam, who will turn 5 on Thursday, loves small John Deere tractors, Legos and mail.
Salmon said Liam loves getting cards and looks forward to small packages delivered to the house from UPS, or “the PDS man” as he calls him.
You can send birthday cards to:

                  Re: A positive image !

I like what I have read about this charity. They serve a worthy cause.

Trucker charity helps bring deceased drivers home
Truck driver Robert Palm started a charity nearly seven years ago, Truckers Final Mile, to help desperate trucking families bring their deceased loved ones home who are often thousands of miles away when tragedy strikes.
Palm, a veteran, served in the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army from 1975 to 1980. He’s been trucking for nearly 40 years.
“Our mission is to reunite North American truck drivers and their family in times of crisis,” Palm told FreightWaves.
In 2020, Palm’s charity, a 501(c)(3), helped 47 drivers’ families pay the expenses when a trucker experienced a fatal heart episode or stroke or died in a highway crash. Ten of the 47 truckers Palm’s organization helped bring home were veterans.
Anyone who has lost a parent at any age knows the first holiday without them is tough.
This year alone, 29 children lost a trucking parent that Palm’s group helped get home.
His organization founded Sleigh Bells and Santa to ensure these children have a present under the tree this Christmas.

Quick thinking helped save two children's lives.

TRUCK DRIVER HEARD AMBER ALERT AND SAVED THE LIVES OF TWO GIRLS
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says that an alert truck driver saved the lives of two missing girls and helped to end a dangerous situation.
On Saturday, October 24, law enforcement in Kansas issued an Amber Alert for two missing children — Nora Jackson, 7, and Aven Jackson, 3.
The two girls had gone missing with their father, Donny Jackson, 40, who officers also suspected of murder.
After the Amber Alert went out for a Black 2008 Honda Accord with KS tag 266 MXB, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that they received a call from a truck driver who had spotted the vehicle traveling westbound on I-40 at mile marker 7 in Beckham County, Oklahoma.

Three drivers have been selected as "Trucking's Frontline Heroes" for helping their community during this pandemic.
                      All did a fantastic job.

Heroes Among Heroes: Three Truckers Honored for Selflessness During Pandemic
Three members of the trucking industry who demonstrated courage and selflessness during the early days of the coronavirus pandemic were honored during American Trucking Associations’ Management Conference & Exhibition.
The 2020 COVID Heroes Awards were presented by Transport Topics on Oct. 27 during MCE, which was held virtually this year due to coronavirus-related safety concerns. The awards were presented in partnership with TrueNorth Cos., a risk management and insurance brokerage firm.
The three recipients were FedEx Express driver Reggie Barrows, UPS Freight driver Charlton Paul Jr. and Rich Miller, owner of Roberts, Wis.-based Miller Transfer Inc. Each person contributed to the well-being of his community while displaying dedication and professionalism as a representative of the industry. All three were also among those chosen earlier as Trucking's Frontline Heroes by Transport Topics in a series that spotlighted members of the industry who went above and beyond the call of duty to keep essential goods flowing during the pandemic.

This world needs more people like this guy.

500 families-in-need will receive a Thanksgiving turkey thanks to this selfless trucker
A Texas truck driver is continuing his 20-year tradition of donating Thanksgiving meals to those in need thanks to support from the community.
Texan and truck driver Darryn Carabeno has been handing out Thanksgiving dinners in and around Weslaco, Texas for more than two decades, and this year will be no different.
“I see the need in the community. I see the people. I hear the stories and we gotta help,” Carabeno said to Valley Central News.
This year, Carabeno will be passing out a whopping 500 turkeys, all with the help of the community he works so hard to serve each holiday season.

A shout out to the Teamster family at local 639 for extending a helping hand during these times of need for so many.

D.C. Teamsters and Society of St. Andrew Partner for Food Bank
Over the past two Saturdays, volunteers converged on Local 639 in Washington, D.C. to help distribute food to families in need as part of a charitable effort run by the Society of St. Andrew. The food bank will continue running every Saturday from now through Dec. 26, 2020.
“We heard about the program and knew it would be a good fit,” said John Gibson, President of Local 639 in Washington, D.C. “We’ve had a tremendous response from volunteers, and in interest in the program. We’ve been doing this for two weeks now and it has gotten a little better each time.”
Jeanette Barnes, a 22-year Local 639 member who works for the Teamsters Department of Political and Legislative Action, first heard about the program partnership with the Society of St. Andrew from Roy Gillespie, the Human Rights Coordinator for Joint Council 13 in Missouri.
