  • Cargill Allowed To Operate After Coronavirus Health Inspection

FORT MORGAN, Colo. (CBS4) – As the coronavirus crisis bombards America’s beef industry, Cargill in Fort Morgan has received a positive bill of health. This comes after inspectors toured the giant facility this week.
A draft report from the Northeast Colorado Health Department, led by Trish McLain, that was obtained by CBS4 concludes, “I believe Cargill has made employee health a priority, and their practices are an example for other food industry companies to follow.”

Data released from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment shows one death from the plant and 15 positive cases. The Teamsters union says the figures remain the same and hopes the plant can safely remain open.

Cargill meatpacking plant in Fort Morgan scales back operations after 1 coronavirus death, as many as 18 cases
The Cargill meatpacking plant in Fort Morgan is scaling back operations to protect workers after one employee died from the novel coronavirus and as many as 18 others have contracted the COVID-19 respiratory disease.

Fifteen employees have tested positive for the virus, while three others are considered probable cases, according to data released Wednesday by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

The move comes as meatpacking plants have come under increased scrutiny after outbreaks have been reported in states around the country. In neighboring Weld County, the JBS meat plant was shut down for two weeks following an outbreak that has left four people dead and 102 others infected with COVID-19 — a dire situation that has drawn national attention and comments from President Donald Trump.
