  • Progressive lawmakers push people first in coronavirus relief

I know we need to shore up the companies but we also most definitely need to shore up the workers! We saw how the bailout for the 2008 collapse helped the regular people. NOT! conservatives, take note who is actually trying to help you!
WASHINGTON—With events moving quickly towards yet another economic stimulus bill hitting Capitol Hill, progressive lawmakers and groups have banded together and are lobbying hard to ensure the measure puts people, not corporate interests, first.

But they have one big obstacle to overcome: Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., who is determined the next economic relief bill contains $250 billion for so-called “small businesses,” and smaller sums sent to hurting hospitals and to states and cities who have seen their revenues disappear – and nothing at all for workers.
The progressive lawmakers and groups on the April 20 press teleconference made it clear that dollars for small businesses and pittances for the others won’t fly as far as they’re concerned.
It would focus on money for people. Ocasio-Cortez, like Sen. Bernie Sanders, said it should have continuing $2,000 monthly payments to adults and $1,000 to kids until the crisis is over. Pressley said it should include rent and mortgage forbearance, along with provisions to ensure landlords and banks don’t come down all at once on people’s heads when those restrictions are lifted.

Ocasio-Cortez Deletes Praise of Oil Price Crash: ‘You Absolutely Love to See It’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) on Monday deleted a message in which she appeared to cheer a historic drop in oil prices as an opportunity to invest in “green infrastructure to save our planet.”

Ocasio-Cortez wrote on social media in response to news about oil prices falling to “negative values.”
“You absolutely love to see it,” the freshman congresswoman said in response. “This along with record low interest rates means it’s the right time for a worker-led, mass investment in green infrastructure to save our planet.”

The lawmaker ended her tweet with “*cough*,” implying that the price crash vindicated her previous environmental activism.

Moments later, Ocasio-Cortez removed the post and replaced it with a more somber tone, arguing it was a “snapshot” of a “turning point” for the climate change movement.

“Fossil fuels are in long-term structural decline. This along w/ low interest rates means it‘s the right time to create millions of jobs transitioning to renewable and clean energy,” the New York Democrat wrote. “A key opportunity.”

I heard from the CabLizzard that the shallow rigs aren't working. Only the deep water rigs. This was 3 weeks ago. He's pulling one load a week and basically it amounts to a nice drive and little else to show for it.........

The agenda in 'every country' impacted by the virus had 2 missions, stop the spread and save the people...There was no agenda to save the corporations...NONE...And the US mission?...Save the corporations FIRST,the people LAST...And the people were way down on the list...Blame Trump all you want but the GOP has been driving that train for decades, starting with Reagan, and MOST of the Corporate Democrats have been ON BOARD as well...

Has anyone ever noticed that whenever a bunch of filthy rich CEO's want a third or fourth vacation home, the ''Working Class'' is always FORCED to Co-Sign the LOAN for it?...Free Markets when Profits Flow...Taxpayer Funded 'Bailouts' when they don't...aka...Privatize the Gains...Socialize the Costs...Heads They Win...Tails We Lose...

Always two sides to any story

E.U. Backs Half-Trillion Euro Stimulus, but Balks at Pooling Debt

BRUSSELS — European Union finance ministers agreed Thursday night to a plan calling for more than half a trillion euros worth of new measures to buttress their economies against the onslaught of the coronavirus, but dealt a blow to their worst-hit members, Italy and Spain, by sidestepping their pleas for the bloc to issue joint debt.

Even in the face of an unprecedented economic crisis caused by a virus that has killed more than 50,000 bloc citizens and infected over a half million, wealthier northern European countries were reluctant to subsidize cheap debt for the badly hit south.

And while Germany, the Netherlands and others showed greater generosity than they had in previous crises, the details of the measures announced showed they had gone to great lengths to limit and control the way the funding is used.
