Let's all celebrate this day with our family and friends safely.

I thought this was a good article to read. Today as many of us gather with family and friends, we know that the working man thanks his union, his brothers and sisters for the hard fought gains that made a day like "Labor Day" possible.

Commentary: Labor Day then and now - is it still relevant?

A look back at Labor Day’s history and a look forward at 21st century dynamics might help judge whether Labor Day will stand the test of time.
Labor Day was first celebrated in 1882 when Peter McGuire, a carpenter and labor union leader, proposed to the New York Central Labor Union that workers be honored in New York with their own holiday. It took 12 years for President Grover Cleveland to make it a national holiday.
What happened in those 12 years is riveting. America was still experiencing the Industrial Revolution, whose shame included 12-hour workdays, child labor and abysmal working conditions.
What else has happened to change our attitude about Labor Day? Consider the following:
The passage of the Occupational Safety and Health Act. In 1970, an agency was established to monitor workplace safety. With mandated standards, random inspections and hefty penalties for noncompliance, the workplace is vastly improved — addressing a major raison d’etre for unions.
If you find yourself sitting around the picnic table Labor Day weekend, consider starting a conversation about the Pullman Strike, and see if your crew can find any modern-day parallels. Whatever the conclusion, the process might build an appreciation for a holiday that suddenly doesn’t seem so remote.

We go to work for the company at pay scales set by the company...We buy a car produced by workers, but we pay the cost set by the company...We finance the car through a bank backed by a company who used workers, and pay the interest on the car loan set by the company/bank...We buy food produced by workers which is then brokered to a company who set the costs we pay...We buy a home built by workers, but owned by a company/bank who sets the price...We take out a loan to pay for the home, but the interest and other charges derived from workers wages are set by the company...We get sick and go to the Doctor, who became a Doctor with the help of workers production, but the prices are set by an insurance company...We go to the hospital and our care is given by workers, but the costs we have to pay are set by the company...We are put on medication that was produced by workers, but we have to pay both the insurance company and the drug company...

I could go on and on,but I'm sure everyone sees what I see here...The Working Class,of whom everything is processed, made, discovered, patented,or innovated,is in fact, from the very beginning, royally screwed...And that's why we ''NEED UNIONS''

If a worker will just pause and think,He/She will vote for Union membership and become an equitable shareholder in his/her destiny within the 'Founding Fathers Promise',and put Corporate America and ALL of their bought and paid for puppet politicians into the pits of Hell where they naturally belong!!!!
