Black truck drivers sue Giant Eagle distribution center on race discrimination grounds
A group of terminated Black truck drivers for Giant Eagle have sued the company on race discrimination grounds, saying they have been subjected to racial slurs and that a disproportionate number have been fired compared to white drivers.
The suit was filed Thursday in U.S. District Court by four former drivers and their attorney, Timothy O'Brien, against OK Grocery Co. in the Fairywood area of the city, Giant Eagle's distribution center.

The plaintiffs — Ulysses Robinson, Anthony Hill, Davone Grayson and Showayne Samuels — were all terminated by Giant Eagle between 2018 and this year.
The distribution center employs about 200 drivers, of whom 20 to 25 are Black. According to the suit, Giant Eagle has "followed a practice of disproportionately disciplining" its Black drivers for alleged misconduct for which similarly situated white drivers have not been disciplined.
Dick Roberts, Giant Eagle spokesman, issued this statement about the suit: “At Giant Eagle, we are committed to an inclusive and diverse culture where all Team Members and guests are treated fairly and equitably. We are aware of today’s filing and are actively reviewing the details of the lawsuit.”
