Default Anti-gun group wants Starbucks to prohibit customers from openly carrying guns in its

    February 5, 2010

An anti-gun group has launched an effort to urge Starbucks to prohibit customers from openly carrying guns in its California coffee shops.

The move comes in response to what officials with the Washington-based Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence said are recent brazen displays of handguns by gun enthusiasts at several California stores, which have frightened some customers and alarmed law enforcement officials.

“We think Starbucks should adopt a national policy not to allow guns to be openly carried at its stores,” said Peter Hamm, a spokesman for the Brady Campaign. “There have been a number of meetings of 'open carry' advocates at Starbucks.”

He said gun enthusiasts were intentionally targeting Starbucks coffee shops for their meetings and openly carrying their weapons strapped to their hips.

"People tend to be unnerved by it,” Hamm said. “It makes them uncomfortable to see a group of men come into stores carrying firearms.”

In response to the gatherings, companies such as Peet's Coffee & Tea and California Pizza Kitchen have prohibited customers from openly carrying guns in their stores, Hamm said.

Hmmmm. I have a question for the antigun crowd. Does that big six gun bother you on that fellows hip?

Well then, if it does, why don't you just go on over there and remove it....Good luck with that....We are allowed to carry them openly in this great western state also.

This ain't Dodge City Kansas. Perhaps we all should start carrying them again. I bet the crooks and gang bangers would soil themselves if we all were packing heat.

I do believe I have the right to keep and bear arms, but I also believe that any establishment has the right to keep me out if I am wearing a gun also. JMO

Yes Starbucks does have that right however it is the anti gun crowd that is pushing Starbucks to make the ban and not Starbucks initiating the idea themselves that bothers me.

It doesn't bother Starbucks so why does it bother anyone else? What do those patrons think of a concealed carry? I would much rather see the weapon carried openly.....Rather than wonder, who was packing? But then again it is my right to carry that concealed weapon because I took the course and passed. Me and Mudflap heading to Starbucks......Packing, making anti gun nuts and gangbangers cry. I love it.

That's called lobbying, and they have a right to do that. Starbucks can either agree or not agree, that's also their right. A Right to Carry permit is not absolute. Try carrying one into work...most places you cannot even have one in your vehicle, or on company property at all. Try walking into a Federal building and tell them of your permit. You'll be explaining while in handcuffs.

No where did I say that a concealed weapon permit is absolute. Along with the permit come rules and regulations as to where you can and can not carry a concealed weapon. Federal buildings such as court houses, IRS, Post Office and the like concealed weapons are not allowed. You are told this and agree to this before the concealed carry permit is issued.

Last time I looked Starbucks were not considered Federal buildings, unless of course the Starbucks was actually located inside a Federal Building.

So back to the point, how is Starbucks all of a sudden being compared to a Federal Buildimg?

In the real world the crooks and gangbangers will carry the concealed weapon, permit doesn't matter to them. If a crook or gangbanger is gonna use a gun, more laws, anti gun lobbying, or the elimination of legal guns and legal gun sales isn't gonna stop them. The crook and gangbanger destined to commit a crime does not care if he does the time!

Lobbyist control to much of the country's direction. Big money gets what they want.

Yeah, I can imagine people wearing them into the Sands Casino which stands where the old Bethlehem Steel used to stand...Or into Mass..Booze,gambling and guns....would seem to make for alot of remorseful situations.
