INDIANAPOLIS -- A crewmember for Dale Coyne Racing was taken to a hospital after Danica Patrick's race car struck him in the pit area during Friday afternoon's practice for the Indianapolis 500.

Charles Buckman suffered a concussion and facial cuts in the incident, which happened at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway at about 2 p.m., 6Sports reported.

Patrick was driving on pit lane when she struck Buckman, who is not a member of Patrick's team and was trying to examine another car in the pit area, 6Sports reported.

Danica seemed pretty shaken up on the news. I'm glad to see they didn't make her answer questions, she made a statement that lasted one minute.

Not to down play the incident but the crew member should have known better.I work on a race team and I can't tell ya enough about the dangers of Pit road..The drivers coming on and off pit road are in race mode and that means they have to concentrate on racing. Hell I almost got hit several times..
I only seen a guy hit one time on purpose and the driver paid a high price because his racing license was suspended for life.Plus he got his a** kicked.What happened with Danica was a pure racing accident.

Danica is a baby doll.Can't wait for her to get into NASCAR. Hope thats not just another rumor.

I like open wheel racing. She needs to stay here for the good of the sports recent merge of Indy and CART. They should have never become seperated in the first place.

He was very lucky to be alive.. My thoughts are prayers are with Charles Buckman, the chief mechanic for Brazilian driver Mario Moraes at Dale Coyne Racing.

I join in the prayers for Mr. Buckman. Let us also pray Danica gets past this incident, we do not want her to become just another beauty queen like Anna Kornikova was for tennis. She has talent and can win races.
