    Default Re: COBRA Health Insurance

I have been on Cobra (single plan for myself) since 3/17/09.
My payment was $434. After one year Cobra extension went to $487
for an additional 6 months. This past August, my Sept payment dropped to $484, however, in Sept. I got notice that I was being placed on Cobra Disability, and now my monthly payment for myself is $710 until next May, when I finally become eligible for Medicare.

I guess the cost of COBRA is determined by each welfare fund. If I were single my payment would be $557.44 per month until next August.

I'm not trying to be nosey, but didn't you qualify for COBRA under the Special American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA)? I don't because I voluntarily retired. But if I had been eligible the monthly cost would be only 35% of the full cost. Which for a single would be $195.10, 2 people $399.77 and for a family $585.31.

    That's almost 3 weeks unemployment.. here..I get about $580/week.

And I should want to hurry into that...I don't think so.
