Default Lets just be union men. Leave the politics to the politcians

Politics to me is the access to the power switches. The Unions access comes via the democratic party. Came anyone refute that?

If the President of the IBT backed the republicans then it would be them that help promote the Teamsters. Who do you think was in power when all the union rights were being broken down in the 70's 80's and 90's? The democrats controlled both houses for over 35 years. So lets not have a division along political lines. Because neither side has been union friendly for decades. That is one of the main reasons the Unions are in such dire straits.

If we can somehow bring the numbers up...theoretically somebody should have to listen...but then again the senate seems to be on track to forsake the rights of the 200,000 plus FEDEX workers rights...for the cash of one rich man...sold out for dough..making it harder to get the numbers up.
I wish I could see what exactly happened when union numbers were higher yet they still passed laws and trade policies which sold out the tax paying, voting citizens of this country...how could they do that to there own constituents?..wish we could unravel the mystery, learn the lesson, rebuild and reverse the rat policies and make sure it never happens again...if it could ever be done. before the whole country collapses to wallstreets desire for world trade and gov't and cheap slave labor.

The taft hartley act was pasted with a super majority in both houses of congress after president Truman vetoed it. At that time congress was majority republican. No law has weakened unions more than that. We will never have access to the power brokers in government thru the republican party, they hate Unions, period. Weather or not the democrats give us enough support is debatable. I have never heard a single positive story about unions on the republican party(fox news) news network, EVER! They just bash the unions at every turn. The dems may give us luke warm support, but it is better than trying to destroy us.

Just to add on to what Muler is saying. Blindly following one political party because the other party is worse doesn't seem to be making the Union world any better. We need some new candidates who know what makes our economy work. We need some new people at the switches, the old parties have have worked well together to make themselves rich and the rest of us without much of a future.

I must admit that i really liked pat buchanan...and he's very conservative..although shunned by his party for his trade beliefs...he was gonna make our present pres, hoffa jr,..his labor guy in the cabinet...which would have been good for the union worker...and good for MULER too for it would have taken him out of the IBT ......buchanan was one of the more recnt politicians not afraid to say that these trade deals were killing us and that eventually when you get rid of the unions the workers will come to the gov't for the things that the unions used to supply to and for the workers.......I liked him and still look him up to see what he's saying..but it would have been the same not knowing what he'd actually do once elected should it happen..but he saw America first in national defense(meaning we don't belong fighting all the world's wars and defending all these other countries) and in manufacturing trade deals and that should fall along our lines of thinking.

Unions have always played a role in politics. Labor unions in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia While the Democratic Party may have been lukewarm to unions, they have not been actively trying bust unions. When Reagan took over 1 in 4 households were union. Now it's 1 in 25. Ask the GOP ( and Blue Dog Dems) how they feel about card check. I'm not supporting anyone who does support my union or my union brothers and sisters. In other word leaving politics to the politicians might not be in your best interest, unless you are anti union Republican hoping for another low turn out election.
From the GOP's own website http://www.gop.com/index.php/action/...bruary_9_2010/
Is there any Union the the GOP supports?

If anyone on this site thinks the Dems are for unions they are mistaken. How many Dems own companies that are union. How many Dems are card carrying union men. How many Dems voted for laws that helped companies to do harm to unions.(FEDEX) What happened to this great EFCA that the Dems waved under the noses of the unions? Now make no mistake about it I harbour no beliefs that the Rep. have our best interest in mind either. But at least they are up front about it. What has the Dems did for unions? My Brother that posted don't vote a party vote a candidate hit the nail on the head. Then and only then will we see some movement in the way we are treated. If a guy knows that he got in office because of the union vote then he will vote for union friendly laws. YOUR BROTHER ALWAYS. PS How many times has the Taft Hartley law been enacted? I have been on strike several times in my career. That law just gives congress the power to see that the whole country is not shut down to the point of crippling the country and it's people.

Are you in favor of the Taft-Hartley act?

I am not in favor of any laws that restrict our right to freedon of choice. But with that said I also don't want any one person or group to be able to destroy my union or my country. Some laws are on the books because we were a country trying to be free and the forefathers had to place laws to allow it to grow without one group being able to destroy it. You your self work for a company (Overnite) that benefited from laws and regulations for the right to be union or not. Just think if Overnite had gone union years ago where would it be now? Do you believe we should be lawless? You see it is a loaded question either way. PS kid I have been representing Teamsters for years and I have fought many battles and there are times laws and regulations save Teamster @ss. I believe I have heard you speak of the book The Legal Rights of Union Stewards correct? If so you should understand laws are to protect and safeguard different sectors of society. YOUR HUMBLE BROTHER ALWAYS!
