Default IRB Charges IBT V.P. Sean O'Brien for Threatening Members

October 21, 2013: International Vice President Sean O'Brien has been charged by the Independent Review Board (IRB) for threatening to "punish" members for running for local union office in Rhode Island Local 251.

The IRB charges note that O'Brien declared in the same speech that he was speaking on behalf of General President Hoffa.

O'Brien issued his threats at a campaign event for incumbent officials, saying: "You know, TDU's famous for saying how we're all brothers and sisters, we're all taking care of each other and when this is over we'll all be friends. I've got news for you, anybody who takes on my friend, Joe Bairos and his team, or Local 251, they've got a major problem. They'll never be our friends. They need to be punished. They need to be punished and they need to be held accountable for their actions."

Bairos, the current head of Local 251, proudly had his campaign post the threats against members on Youtube.

This story is now being reported on local TV news. David Levin, a proclaimed organizer with TDU is contacting local TV stations supplying them with letters from the IRB.
I guess Mr Levin has forgotten the oath he took when he was sworn in (if he actually is even a Teamster) to not bring reproach upon the union. TDU is going out of their way to publicize union business. That's BS.

Union business is just that, union business and any person or organization publicly releasing information should be dealt with accordingly.

Now you know why TDU is referred to as Teamsters Destroying the Union. TDU SUCKS!!!!

I always liked their watchdog approach but I do agree with you there are times they just need to dummy up.

Hoffa files charges vs. Hub Teamsters chief
Teamsters president James Hoffa will file charges against Boston-based Local 25 president Sean O'Brien for allegedly threatening to punish backers of rivals running against his allies in a Rhode Island union election.

Hoffa will appoint a panel from the Teamsters' executive board to hear the charges, according to John J. Cronin Jr., administrator for the Independent Review Board, which is charged by a federal court order to investigate allegations of corruption, domination or control in the Teamsters. "They also have the option of submitting an agreement to resolve the charges," Cronin said.

You know how you stop them from doing that? MAYBE don't threaten members that are attempting to run for union office. Love how you put the blame of all of this on TDU when O'Brien said it, one of their supporters filmed it and posted it on youtube for the world to see. Where's the outrage there? Last I looked, Youtube had more daily viewers than some little Providence based CBS affiliate.

Put the blame where it belongs. O'Brien for saying it, and their boneheaded UPS steward from 251 that filmed it and posted it on youtube.

United Action Slate was elected in Local 251, so O'Brien will now have to face his suspension knowing his effort was for a lost cause.

The beginning of the end was diverted by The United Action Slate. Bairos isn't fit to run a McDonalds never mind a Local.

We'll see, they just wiped out over 200 years of experience in all phases of the different Industries our Local deals with and replaced it with 0 years of experience. We now have a Local run by Maintenance workers from RI Hosp. and Pre loaders. I'm one of the first people to toot the "change is good horn" and I believe some change was necessary but I believe that we are heading in the wrong direction!!! I've been a member of this Great Local for almost 20 years and for the first time I'm really concerned and I've gone through Bankruptcies ,job actions, strikes etc. I've was a Steward for 11 years and saw and dealt with a lot of things, but I never thought I'd see this!! Time will tell whose right.

The learning curve is a painful thing. Losing experience is a tough pill to swallow.
