Default Rangel Snags Endorsement From Teamsters Union

Congressman Charlie Rangel, who is facing a tough re-election battle in a rematch against State Senator Adriano Espaillat, has notched another endorsement, this time from the teamsters union.

Teamsters Local 237, which represents 24,000 workers in the city, has thrown its support to Mr. Rangel, who is trying to win a final term in Washington, the unionís president announced today.

Former President Bill Clinton is endorsing Rep. Charles Rangel for re-election, giving the embattled Harlem lawmaker crucial support as he tries to fend off a stiff primary challenge.

Clinton's endorsement will be announced Wednesday in a press release. Clinton also has agreed to record robocalls for Rangel and lend his name to e-mail fundraising appeals for the congressman

"I'm happy to endorse my good friend Charlie Rangel," Clinton said in a statement provided to the Daily News.

"Charlie has been a champion of more good jobs, successful small businesses, and strong families for more than 40 years. That's what his district and our country need now."

After 43 years in Congress, Rangel faces the toughest fight of his political career in the June 24 Democratic primary.

His chief opponent is state Sen. Adriano Espaillat (D-Manhattan), who nearly defeated Rangel in the 2012 Democratic primary.

Clinton and Rangel have an alliance dating back to Clinton’s presidency.

Rangel first encouraged Hillary Clinton to run for Senate in New York, and he enthusiastically backed her 2008 presidential campaign — a stance that hasn't helped Rangel's relationship with the Obama White House.

After his presidency ended, Bill Clinton initially located the office of his foundation in Rangel's district, on 125th St. in Harlem.

Rangel recently said the staggered announcements aren't his preference.

"It's the campaign that's doing this," he said this month. "As far as I'm concerned, I'd rather we all hang out and get it out there and encourage others to join."

Michael Walrond, a Harlem based pastor close to Rev. Al Sharpton, is also running in the June 24 primary.

Knows nothing about , like how I have said before N.Y. was always getting bombed and cops were getting killed years ago and to fund the radicals operations they robbed banks and armored cars, and here is another story about the Great Senator Charles Rangel and President Bill Clinton .

Former Weather Underground radical Kathy Boudin — who spent 22 years in prison for an armored-car robbery that killed two cops and a Brinks guard — now holds a prestigious adjunct professorship at Columbia University’s School of Social Work, The Post has learned.

Boudin, 69, this year won another academic laurel — being named the Sheinberg Scholar-in-Residence at NYU Law School, where last month she gave a lecture on “the politics of parole and re-entry.”
Boudin’s status of perp-turned-prof outraged the widow of one of her victims, Brinks guard and dad of three Peter Paige, who was gunned down by her accomplices from the Black Liberation Army on Oct. 20, 1981, in Rockland County.

Boudin acted as a getaway driver in the heist.

“She doesn’t deserve a job at all,” said Josephine Paige, 74, when told of Boudin’s posts. “She doesn’t deserve anything, nothing at all. I think she should be back in an institution.”

John Hanchar, the nephew of another victim of the robbery, Nyack Police Officer Edward O’Grady, said that while Boudin “has a right to do whatever she wants . . . I just hope the people that she’s lecturing are smart enough to question why [she felt] like killing people is an acceptable choice to forward their goals.”

“It’s easy to forget that violence is never the answer. Nine children grew up without their dads because of her actions,” said Hanchar, whose uncle O’Grady was shot with automatic weapons

Boudin did not respond to a request for comment.

An unusual combination of New York political and law enforcement leaders have condemned former President Bill Clinton's pardon of Susan L. Rosenberg, a one-time member of the Weather Underground terrorist group who was charged in the notorious 1981 Brink's robbery in Rockland County that left a guard and two police officers dead.

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani, a Republican, and United States Senator Charles E. Schumer, a Democrat, were among those who criticized the pardon, as did Bernard B. Kerik, New York City's police commissioner, and David Trois, a Rockland County police union official.
At the time of her arrest, she was wanted on charges related to the 1981 armed robbery of a Brink's armored car in Nanuet, N.Y., a holdup that was supposed to raise money for the Weather Underground and other radical groups. But Ms. Rosenberg denied any involvement in the Brink's robbery and was never tried on those charges, because Mr. Giuliani, then the United States attorney in Manhattan, indicated that given her 58-year sentence on the New Jersey weapons charges, there was no need to proceed with that case.

She requested a pardon after federal prosecutors in 1999 cited evidence of her role in the Brink's case as a reason she should not be paroled on the New Jersey charges. Because she was never tried or convicted in the Rockland County case, it was unfair to deny her parole, her lawyer, Howard Gutman, said yesterday.
