Is that your strategic philosophy, that you assume I'm suggesting that I believe that freight Teamsters are "company men"?

If so, I completely disagree with that analogy.

Pros – The thing I don't like about sygma is most of the drivers complain a lot. The money these drivers get they should be thankfull from $1000-$3000 a week. My boss J. Rivers is a great and positive person. He is the reason why I love my job.

Cons – As a new driver I think the hardest part about my job is learning the routs. It also sucks to listen to negative drivers talk about sygma, when I'm doing my paper work before my rout. But Ben my sup keeps my spirits up.

Advice to Senior Management – It hurts me to say this, but I think they should grow some balls and fire some of these great but nagative drivers. They talk to management like trash. Poor Jeff another great person in management is walked on constantly. With this batch of new drivers maybe they are...

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

As of June 29, 2013, we had approximately 48,100 full-time employees, approximately 17% of whom were represented by unions, primarily the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Contract negotiations are handled by each individual operating company. Approximately 35% of our union employees are covered by collective bargaining agreements which have expired or will expire during fiscal 2014 and are subject to renegotiation. Since June 29, 2013, two contracts covering approximately 300 of such employees have been renegotiated. We consider our labor relations to be satisfactory.

I just wonder what your point is or if you even have one? You don't seem to want to face the facts so off we go to dervish land again? It makes me wonder.......Do you still have the same disdain for those former big "R" employees or have you had a change of heart?

If you've got another 30 to go then you are probably fairly new to the union. I don't know the age breakdown at your barn but I would guess that the half you're referring to are older and trying to hang on until they reach retirement age. I'd also guess that the reason they don't care is because they came from other Teamster jobs that went out of business. More than likely they lost faith in the Hoffa administration's handling of recent shutdowns. Like maybe the Holland shutdown of the Red Star expansion. Or his overseeing the destruction of the NMFA.

I would probably still have faith in the local union officials but not the powers that be at the IBT headquarters. You can't expect the men to go out and picket or leaflet other jobs when their current international leadership doesn't have their backs. I'd be willing to bet that some of those same guys campaigned for the organizing of Overnite probably back before your time.
most of the guys i work with have always been foodservice, under white paper contracts. i know of a couple old freight guys, but i havent heard any talk from them about the international leadership.

and this is why i responded the way i did. before hoffa jr, what major companies were organized under carey, presser, or williams? hell, what sizeable companies have been organized since dereulation, period? see my point? no one else did any better, when there was more union density in trucking.

Why would the members not care?

It is because of Fox News.

its one of a million different reasons for apathetic attitudes towards the union, dont you think? ive worked in white paper contract barns, the freight members feelings towards the union are absent from many of these smaller barns.

    Really???
yeah! really! do you think if we had a different guy in the international, all of a sudden the non union barns would e at the halls trying to organize? wishful thinking ,imo.....
