Default 2 ex-Teamsters convicted of racketeering

Two former Teamsters union members were convicted Wednesday in US District Court in Boston of racketeering — for using violence and threats of violence to win jobs and elections for union office.

Joseph Burhoe, 46, a former Teamsters member with a criminal history, and John Perry, 62, the former head of a local chapter, were convicted of multiple charges, including racketeering, conspiracy, conspiracy to extort businesses, and extortion. Both will be sentenced in late February.

Another defendant, Thomas Flaherty, 50, was acquitted of all counts, and defendant James Deamicis, 51, was acquitted of some counts. The jury was hung on other counts related to Deamicis, and US District Judge Denise Casper declared a mistrial on those counts.

Good for the bums. At least the IRB did it's job by overruling Hoffa and throwing them out 3 years ago

June 10, 2011: In another blow to Hoffa’s cover-up of corruption in Local 82, the Independent Review Board has rejected the findings of an IBT panel for being too soft on schemers who rigged contract votes and embezzled union funds.

Hoffa was forced to put together an IBT panel after the Independent Review Board charged International Trade Show Director John Perry and his cronies with a series of violations against Teamster members: including rigging votes, embezzling union funds, and funneling work to friends and family.

Ex-members of Teamsters local sentenced on extortion, racketeering
Two former members of Boston Teamsters Local 82 have been sentenced on charges of extortion and racketeering, officials said.

John Perry, 62, of Woburn, was sentenced Friday to 30 months in prison, a $12,500 fine, and one year of supervised release, according to a statement from the office of US Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz. Joseph “Jo Jo” Burhoe, 46, of Braintree, was sentenced Friday to 70 months in prison and three years of supervised release.

Both were convicted of multiple felony counts after a seven-week trial, Ortiz’s office said. A restitution hearing will take place May 22.

Perry is the former secretary and treasurer of Local 82. Burhoe acted as Perry’s enforcer and was convicted of a prior felony, the US attorney’s office said.

Nice find ABFwife. It good to see union criminals prosecuted and sentenced to jail. I don't often read about jail time for union officials banned by the IRB.
