STRATFORD >> Local 1150 of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters is now being run by a trustee after an independent investigation determined its leaders were not following proper checks and balances in the union’s operation.

The trustee took over the financial operations of the Stratford-based union local last week, said Bret Caldwell, a national spokesman for the Teamsters. Officers of the union continue to work for Local 1150 as business agents, but no longer have financial control, including the ability to write checks from the unions accounts, Caldwell said.

Local 1150 represents Sikorsky Aircraft employees at the company’s Stratford headquarters, as well as at plants the aerospace company has in Florida and Alabama. As of the end of 2013, Local 1150 represented 4,844 workers, including 3,506 in Connecticut.
