Default Local 710!!!!!! Our Brothers and Sisters there need your wide support!

It has been determined that what is going on or about to happen in Local 710, which you will remember was recently trusteed when Pat Flynn was oustered, is about the top-down control Hoffa's administration has become so notorious for.

Our Brothers and Sisters from Chicago Local 710 are in the fight of their lives right now against Hoffa and the IBT which plans to close and/or merge them. That's 14,000 members, and 16 convention delegates WE'LL NEED to DUMP HOFFA once and for all. We can't risk that. These Brothers and Sisters from our same cause need your help.

A couple of us had a discussion earlier and came to the conclusion that this is about the 2016 Teamster election. It's a really big local, the former leaders were very corrupt. the local was put into trusteeship, right about the same time our dissent movements were really picking up speed nationally. So now what we have is 14,000 educated mobilized members who can easily put together 16 delegates to the convention in Vegas.. which would be huge for us, and bad for Hoffa. So, that's it in a nutshell.

This is a power struggle between the IBT and a unifying membership that is getting enlightened, educated, active, mobilized, and organized. If they were not, a petition such as this would not have surfaced. We have to stand with our sisters and brothers who are in the same boat as any one of us. These filthy corrupt "leaders", if we should be so bold to call them that, cannot beat a unifying membership fairly and squarely so they have no recourse other than consolidation.

Don't forget that this has happened in Chicago before: Local 714 and 726 merged without members approval

as well as countless other places such as Philadelphia around 15 years ago. Have we been better off for any of it?

As it stands now, we need 40 signatures to reach the goal of 500, and we surely hope to reach many more than that.

    Body of the petition:

Do Not allow Trusteeships to break up, part out or dissolve Teamster Locals!

The Brothers and Sisters of the Teamsters stand together. All Teamsters are bound by hard work and dedication to the cause of fair labor laws and governing bodies. They are PROUD to be called Union!

The International Union exists for all their members however large or small the local union might be. At times, Locals run into tough times that are brought on by irresponsible administration members. Thusly, the International Union assigns a Trusteeship to rid the Local of the administration and try to correct past errors that brought the Local into a turmoil. But members should NOT be held accountable or suffer the consequences of their errors. They should be given a chance to vote in a new administration to correct those errors and begin the path of profitable growth again.

We at Local 710 want a chance to keep our members together. We do NOT want to be broken up, parted out or dissolved to other Locals. Local 710 is over 14,000 members strong.

We at the Rebuild 710 Slate want to keep Local 710 whole, as it stands now. All of our members are important and each and every one make us strong. Not just with their hard work and dedication, but by their bond as brothers and sisters.

Please sign this petition to keep all Local members intact, and not allow an assigned Trusteeship to break up their members, but to give them a chance for CHANGE and growth.

Related, and the glaring question is, WHY??

"Most Teamster conventions in the last 25 years have been held in Las Vegas—for good reason.
During a period of steady union decline, there's no better place to escape reality than a city based on make-believe. There in the desert, amid phony Egyptian pyramids, ersatz Italian villages, and other costly flights of architectural fancy, top leaders can spend a whole week pretending everything's just fine and dandy, while Teamster contracts deteriorate.

Hoffa was... a low-profile Teamster lawyer in Detroit, who had never been a shop steward, local officer, national staffer, or executive board member. Yet somehow, he implied, the magic of the Hoffa name was going to win better contracts, organize the unorganized, and rebuild Teamster clout.

Restoring the union power necessary to reverse that death spiral won't be accomplished just by ditching Hoffa.

But even in the surreal, unrepresentative world of Teamster conventioneering in Las Vegas, there will be some independent-minded delegates who think it's worth trying."

I know the Presser issue is a dead issue and water under the bridge... but why on earth do we find ourselves in such a very similar condition today?

"Independent-minded", FREE-Thinkers >> Not Hoffa-puppets, Not TDU. Just like a microcosm of our country's politics: Where does the majority fall? In the middle. Who represents them? At present, no one. This is an opportunity to bring about a necessary reality.

We need to start asking (ourselves) questions. "WHY" would be a good place to start...

" This week, Mr. Presser was derided by the dissident faction as corrupt, undemocratic and greedy - as president he earns about $550,000 in salary with perhaps $200,000 more in expenses and allowances - as well as a man who never worked as a rank-and-file teamster and who, until today, had never been elected to office in a competitive election. Counsel From Secretary.."
