Default New Teamster Voice is here. Also, please run for convention delegate against Hooffaa.

Us rank and file Teamsters don't get much honest, informative information from Teamsters headquarters in Washington, D.C. That goes for teamster.org, the TEAMSTER ragazine, and from the Hofficers personally. Although we do get a lot of photos of Hoffa.

I'll give you my opinion on where to get solid information on issues of concern to Teamsters. That's Teamsters for a Democratic Union, also known as TDU. Via tdu.org, their paper newsletter Teamster Voice, and from their employees personally, they have helped and continue to help Teamster members.

They usually don't issues Teamster Voice's in pdf form. But apparently to mark the start of the new International officer election cycle, the brand new Voice is in pdf form, and is here: https://goo.gl/miG3h7

I ask you to read the file and to save it and email it to members who agree that we need change at the top in this Union.

Reform supporters are going to be needed to help gather petition signatures in June, July, and August from Teamsters, so that the Tim Sylvester slate can become accredited candidates, and so that the slate will be eligible to get a membership list of all Teamsters.

Finally, the reform slate needs Teamsters to run for positions as convention delegates to the Teamsters convention. That convention is 13 months from now, but delegate elections will happen mostly in January, February, and March of next year. If you will have paid at least 24 months of dues on time as of your Local's nominating meeting, and you haven't been suspended in that time, you can run for delegate or alternate delegate.

TDU, like I have said in another post ,it will take a massive education of the teamsters in the school buses,in the warehouses,in the town highway dept's and even the professional services like the police dept's and the nurses... A few hundred thousand in the freight division will not get it done especially since 60% won't even return the ballot.. Hoffa will ride on his name sorry to say.. IMO he is a disgrace to what his father brought to the union..

The google pdf thing isn't very readable on my phone. Maybe somebody could copy and paste text here.
My lack of technological maneuvering is the problem.
Also PDF takes space for downloads which people using phones have limited space.

Here's the text of the pdf about running for delegate. The photo that's in the document isn't here:

DO SOMETHING TO HELP TO MAKE THE TEAMSTERS A BETTER UNION
RUN FOR TEAMSTERS CONVENTION DELEGATE OR ALTERNATE DELEGATE

There are things that rank and file members can do to fight back against the “leaders” of this Union who decided to disregard the NO votes of thousands of UPS Teamsters, and implement every UPS-Teamsters contract. Those same “leaders” (the current General Executive Board) who don't accomplish much, if anything, for any Teamster in any craft. Well, they are good at taking huge salaries for a very part-time job.

The first major thing is to get yourself and a few other members of your Local to get themselves nominated for the position of Teamsters convention delegate to the next Teamsters convention. That convention will be held the last week of June of 2016 in the Paris Ballroom of the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas.

The only way the rank and file dues payers can force out the members of the current Teamsters General Executive Board (Hoffa, Hall, and the International Vice Presidents and Trustees) is to have a slate of reform-supporting members beat those Old Guard Hofficers in the International election in October and November of 2016.

But there will not be an election if no slate other than the incumbents gets themselves successfully nominated at the convention. That's where reform-supporting delegates are critically important. They vote to nominate candidates for the GEB. If there aren't enough reform delegates in every region (Western, Central, Eastern, Southern, and Canada) then Tim Sylvester, the reform candidate for General President, will not be able to get a full slate on the ballot for all 1,400,000 Teamsters to vote for in October of 2016.

But getting yourself and like minded members nominated at your Local is the easy part. The hard part is beating the Hoffa lovers in a delegate election among only the members of your Local. That's because the power of incumbency is big. But if enough members are irritated enough and educated enough to understand that they have the power to change this Union, challengers can win the delegate election at your Local.

The number of delegates each Local Union sends to the convention is based on the average number of members each Local has in the two years before the convention. Most Locals are small, and only send one to three delegates. But UPS Locals are usually larger, so they send more delegates.

So not only would you want candidates for reform-supporting delegate, you would also want one or more for the position of alternate delegate. Those also go to the convention, if they win the Local delegate election. But they don't vote at the convention, unless a delegate from their Local drops out for any reason. If a delegate drops out shortly before or during the convention, then the number one alternate (determined by delegate election vote totals) becomes a delegate for the rest of the convention. Each Local decides how many alternates to pay to send to every convention, but it can't be more than the number of delegates, and is usually less.

If you have ever gone to a meeting at your Local, or if you have ever read any Local Union or Joint Council publication, there is something that the Hofficers never tell the members. They never announce anything about the fact that members in good standing can run for the position of Teamsters convention delegate. They don't want you to know that. Just like they don't want you to know how much they decided to pay themselves from your dues money.

They don't want you to know that:

Rank and file members have the same right to run for delegate or alternate delegate as the Local officers and employees
The convention delegates, as a whole, have the power to overrule the General Executive Board
The convention delegates and alternate delegates get the following, all paid by their Local:
    1. Fully paid travel expenses to the convention
    2. Your own private hotel room at the Paris or the adjoining Bally's hotel for six nights
    3. Meal and expense money for the whole trip
    4. 40 hours of pay for the week, at the same rate that you earn at your regular job

It is the U.S. government that forces the Teamsters to print announcements about delegate elections in Teamster publications. But too many members don't know anything, don't read anything, and don't care. That has negative consequences for all Teamster members.

The Tim Sylvester-Fred Zuckerman “Teamsters United” slate will not be finalized until after most of the elected delegates have been determined in the spring of 2016. That's because it doesn't make sense to announce vice president candidates for any region for which the head of the reform slate knows that they do not have enough reform delegates in that region to get reform candidates for vice president from that region successfully nominated. So we need reform delegates desperately. As many as possible. In each of the five regions.

It's true that 2016 is many months in the future. But there are things you should start doing now. The first is to make sure that your Union dues are paid on time for every single month from January or so of 2014 through the 2016 convention. Any Teamster who has even one late monthly dues payment will be ineligible to run for delegate or alternate. And you can not have any suspensions of membership in that time.

The second thing to start on now is talking with fellow Local members and try to find the strongest reform supporters. Get their names and contact information. Tell them about the information in this document. Tell them that they have the power to try to do something besides complain.

Just before your Local delegate nomination meeting, likely in the first two months of 2016, your group of strong reform supporters can make the final decision about who would run for delegate, who would run for alternate delegate, and who would be left to try to help the slate win by donating money and campaigning.

You want to try to have a diversified slate. That means different crafts, shops, races and genders. You would need campaign flyers to pass out at Local Union workplaces. You can also have flyers mailed to members' homes. But flyers cost money and campaigning takes time, effort, and gas money.

You do not know where every Local shop is located. But as an announced candidate for delegate, you will be able to get a list of every shop in your Local. This is an election rule. The Hofficers can not say no to that. You send a letter to your Local in the last few months of 2015 announcing your impending candidacy, and request the list of shops and addresses.

Here are the rules for the 2016 convention delegate election and International officer election:

    https://www.ibtvote.org/Election-Rules/Home

That's long and dense, so you might look at it in small doses

That's the basics. To recap–if you become a delegate, you go to the convention, watch the dog and pony show, and see the Old Guard bully tactics live and in person. You also vote on amendments to the Teamsters constitution, and vote to nominate candidates for the GEB. You might want to bring ear plugs, because the HOFFA, HOFFA, HOFFA, chants can get deafening. Not to mention sickening. Also, you attend reform caucus meetings every evening for an hour or so, where the day's activities are discussed, as are the next day's.

So now you pissed off Teamsters can channel your righteous anger towards something positive to do. You have the power, if you will only learn that you have it, then use it.
