Obamas letter sounds the best, but they all still say to me "we got your letter, we agree, and nothing will get done about it."
You're damned if you do, and damned if you don't

This is the email I received today from my Congressman Tom Rice. He doesn't actually commit to backing the bill. But he obviously understands the importance of this bill and hopefully he will listen to us and vote yes.

Thank you for contacting me to express your thoughts on the Keep Our Pension Promises Act, H.R. 2844. I appreciate you taking the time to share your views with me. This is an important issue, and I have heard from many constituents who feel the same way as you do. As you may know, this legislation prevents benefit reductions for retirees in certain underfunded multiemployer plans that were cut by the Multiemployer Pension Reform Act of 2014. This preserves retirees' pensions while providing financial relief to troubled multiemployer pension plans and the federal pension insurance program. As the United States House of Representatives considers H.R. 2844, I will keep your thoughts in mind. While there are many Members of Congress with different backgrounds and constituencies, please know that I will fight to represent your interests and those of the Seventh Congressional District of South Carolina.

For up-to-date information about where I stand on some of the most pressing issues facing South Carolinians and the nation today, please visit my website- Congressman Tom Rice | Representing the 7th District of South Carolina. From there, you will be able to sign up for my e-mail newsletter, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube pages, all of which will provide you with regular updates on what I am doing in Washington, D.C. to better the Seventh District.

I understand your time is valuable, and I thank you for reaching out to me. It is an honor to represent the Pee Dee and Grand Strand, and if I may be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

    Sincerely,

    Tom Rice

We all have to keep up the pressure on our Congressional representatives to support the Keep our Pension Promises Act. Putting partisan politics aside I can't see how anyone other than the corporate giants and their shill the NCCMP could be against this bill. It's obvious to some of us that the MPFR Act of 2014 was an attack on unions and slipped passed Congress as a way to bail out the PBGC without using taxpayer dollars.

I'm all for saving tax dollars whenever practical. And it appears that the Keep our Pension Promises Act would do this. The Legacy fund established with offshore unpaid corporate taxes would provide the PBGC with the funds necessary to do it's intended job. It won't cost the PBGC any more and from what I can see it won't hurt the so called "orphans"....................I can only speculate as to why Nyhan and the NCCMP are against a bill that would save his funds without hurting it's members. Whatever happened to his fiduciary responsibilities? If he has legitimate reasons why he thinks the Keep our Pension Promises Act won't work then tell us. Don't backdoor us with his lawyers lobbying Congress against the bill.

The Center for Retirement Research estimates that the average PBGC guaranteed benefit of for Central States retirees is $8,580 per year.

If the PBGC transferred $8,580 for 104,000 orphans (half of all Central States retirees), that would add $892 million to the Fund, slightly more than it needs to pay $2.8 billion in total benefits a year.

For anyone not on their mailing list this is the latest from the Pension Rights Center. You can make comments to the Treasury Dept. on line but they have to be submitted by this Tuesday the 18th.
