Default Hoffa: The Time Has Passed for Short-Term Solutions for Highway Funding

I agree with Hoffa 100% on this one. Enough is enough is enough is enough!!!!

(WASHINGTON) – Today, the House voted to extend federal highway funding for another five months as the July 31 expiration of the current funding quickly approaches. This marks the fourth time this year that the House has voted to extend highway funding for the short-term rather than buckling down and finding a long-term solution.
Without clearly defined, long-term federal funding, states cannot commit to the infrastructure projects they desperately need. However, the inability of Republicans and Democrats to agree upon how to fund a multi-year surface transportation bill has left state governments and the millions of workers who benefit from infrastructure projects in limbo.

“I don’t know what is worse – the gridlock on our highways or the gridlock in Congress,” Hoffa said. “It is long past time for Congress to enact a comprehensive, long-term highway bill that will generate jobs and build, maintain and repair our ailing infrastructure. Let’s get America working!”

An agreement has been reached on a 6 year deal to fund the highway and transit systems of the USA.
Except, only the first 3 years of funding has been found, the next 3 years still need to be financed.
My only problem with this is the usual political maneuvering to add language regarding Planned Parenthood.
Now what does Planned Parenthood have to do with our transportation system ? ( of course they are GOP members )
This is part, and / or one of the many things wrong with politics today.
Deal with one issue, plain and simple, no need to add other issues to a bill.

Republican and Democratic negotiators in the Senate announced an agreement Tuesday on a six-year highway and transit bill, subject to approval by rank-and-file lawmakers.

However, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said he and Sen. Barbara Boxer of California, who led the Democratic negotiations, were able to agree only on enough funds to pay for transportation programs for the first 3 years of the bill, leaving open how the later three years will be financed.

"This is a six-year highway authorization that will allow planning for important long-term projects around the country, and the bill provides three years of guaranteed funding for the Highway Trust Fund," McConnell said. "Senators from both parties know that a long-term highway bill is in the best interest of our country."

Well haven't you been by any rest areas on the interstates?? You know there are working women in them and if the rest areas are on the Federal interstate system then planned parenthood has to be addressed...And I always thought you were a truck driver that knew his surroundings ..

Think I've been in the sun too much today!!
