I think we are all going to be watching this one.

(WASHINGTON) – The Teamsters Union stands in solidarity with over 3,700 Nissan workers in Mississippi who are voting in their election to join the United Auto Workers today and Friday.

The workers are organizing in Canton, one of only three nonunion Nissan plants worldwide.

“On behalf of the 1.4 million members of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, we support the brave Canton workers who have persisted in their efforts to form a union despite fierce opposition from their employer,” said Jim Hoffa, Teamsters General President. “We applaud these courageous workers as they stand up for what’s right and to improve their working conditions.”

The National Labor Relations Board recently charged that the company violated workers’ rights. Workers say the company has threatened to close the plant if they join the union, interrogated workers about their union support and promised better conditions if employees oppose the union.
