There is a 30 day extension for now to continue negotiation and hold off the strike. There are a few posting on these boards regarding this. They want wages and pension. We are saying 'Hell NO."

Profitable Pipeline Construction Contractors for Big Oil and Gas Target Workers’ Retirement Security

More than 700 Teamster pipeline construction workers across the country are preparing to strike after negotiations failed with the Pipe Line Contractors Association over unreasonable contract demands by the profitable industry that would gut workers’ retirement security.

The strike started with about 200 Teamsters in Pennsylvania and West Virginia walking off the job. More in other locations are to follow.

The highly trained and skilled workers perform the difficult driving tasks related to hauling and laying pipe at pipeline construction sites. The National Pipe Line Agreement between the Teamsters and the Pipe Line Contractors Association (PLCA) expired Jan. 31, 2011, but was extended twice, ultimately expiring on Dec. 31, 2011.

Selective pickets? WTF Jimmy? I spoke to my steward from the "Ruby" and he told me there were several lines that had tie in crews working....Those would be the ones to strike! That pipe is about 2 feet from being completed and there is no way the welders would cross our pickets. They would have some serious leverage. $200,000 dollars a day going down the drain on each line....How long do you think the gas company will put up with that? I would assume there would be an immense amount of pressure put on to have the contract negotiated and completed in short order.

Hoffa Signs Deal Allowing Contractors to Leave the Central States Pension Fund

May 25, 2012: In May the Hoffa administration signed a national contract in the pipeline industry that lets all construction contractors pull out of the Central States fund.

The deal establishes a new company plan, just as Hoffa and Hall let UPS start a company plan in 2008.
