Enough Doom
OK so things look bad what can be done? let this thread be a sounding board for moving all TEAMSTERS ahead.
Here goes. How about our IBT leaders gathering petitions showing the buying power of the 1.4 million TEAMSTERS and their families and friends which would be well over 20 to 30 million. Then with this compiled list explain to all that we will conduct our business with the companies that use TEAMSTERS in their business dealings. Such as TEAMSTER Truck Drivers, TEAMSTERS Graphic Artist, TEAMSTER Law Enforcement for security, and so on and so forth. I got it started now take off with your ideas. YOUR BROTHER ALWAYS!

Re: Enough Doom
When I started in 1983 I viewed TEAMSTERS as Truck drivers, workers and helpers!!!!!! Where have we gone? We need to organize ALL these non union trucking companies, lets get back to basics for all WORKING PEOPLE! We need to organize, lets get together and take a stance we have the government (FINALLY) on our side. We all need to go above and beyond to secure a sound future for us and our families!!! If things are going good for you right now, don't take it for granted, it will not be here for ever, it is an ongoing fight. We have to stand up for US and our futures, and the futures of our future BROTHERS and SISTERS!!!

Re: Enough Doom
How it used to get done in days gone by.
Quote:
Camouflage-clad men carrying homemade signs stand along the dusty road leading to the mine’s entrance, where other men and some women — also outfitted in the familiar camouflage colors — sit on the pavement blocking coal trucks from entering steel gates.
State troopers in their pressed uniforms and sharp hats tell the people to move or be moved, but the warning falls on deaf ears, as the people sing “We shall not be moved.”
Eventually, the squatters are lifted from the road, carried by police one by one to a nearby bus, and shuttled off to jail

Re: Enough Doom
Now everyone is scared to take that stand. You are correct years ago that is what was done, Now you mention it and every brother and sister starts to shake, The Teamsters board needs to get out of bed with the companies and start stand up for there members.
We as teamesters need to join forces together and fight them. Its time we say no when the board says yes.

Geat idea, the problem is that for every 1 member who cares about his Union, Country and Company there is 1 who is in it for the pay only. They have came with no idea how the job came to be what is and how important it is to keep the Union strong all they are worried about is themsleve's and that pay-check.Solidarity is a word that so many have no idea what it means.
If all of us were to boycott say Wal-Mart in favor of Target, Costco or some other retailer then that too would garner some attention on Teamster Member Buying Power...

Re: Enough Doom
Then it is up to EVERYONE of us to change their thinking, we need to school these people and get them to fight for all that they take for granted. We need to encourage all brothers and sisters at our work places to go to union meetings. I am so discouraged at the attendance at our union halls. We can't be effective by just standing around hoping things will go the way we want. We all post lots of good facts and constructive information on here. We can't do it alone we need to go the extra mile and get our fellow brothers and sisters as involved as we are!!!

Re: Enough Doom
Ok...So how do you not see that the union's of today are what's destroying our country. I'm a card carrying member of the local 436 and it's destroying what could be a great place to work. I agree that in it's time, the union was needed in this country. Times change. Now my union won't hear and don't care about my thoughts, I have to pay my dues so all you union guys should have to hear my views...right?
