Carhartt; clothing of the Union working man?
Quote:
Carhartt, Inc. is a leading U.S. producer of workwear—overalls, jeans, coveralls, jackets, and other items—favored by those in the construction and farming industries.
In 1998 Carhartt began construction of the new 350,000-square-foot Robert C. Valade distribution center in Hanson, Kentucky. It opened in May 1999. When Carhartt awarded a contract for the distribution center to a nonunion design-and-build contractor, the company became involved in a dispute with the local building and construction trades council and the AFL-CIO, which threatened to boycott Carhartt products. Although there was never an official boycott, many union members were awaiting the outcome of the dispute before purchasing Carhartt apparel. The dispute was settled in November 1998 when Carhartt agreed to work with appropriate union building and construction trades councils in the construction of future projects, but planned to complete the Hanson facility with the existing contractor and subcontractors. Carhartt had traditionally been a unionized manufacturer, and union workers were a major customer segment. Carhartt had won the AFL-CIO labor management award in 1992.
With the construction of a 200,000-square-foot factory in Penjemo, Mexico, in September 1998, that would employ 500 union workers, Carhartt began making new products outside the United States. However, the company planned to continue making its core products at its existing U.S. facilities.

I recently purchased some Carhartt products. Some were made in Mexico, others made in Honduras, and some even made in the Dominican Republic.
As we all know these countries are known for having the best paid workers and the best Union representation in the world!

Toyota built a plant here in San Antonio to manufacture the Tundra. Plant was Union Built but there is no UAW...... Cant blame the UAW so much as years of Texas being RTW state and the deeply ingrained anti Union attitude here in South Texas.... Hard to educate those that refuse to listen.....

Right to work for less states were once to haven for union busters to set up there manufacturing plants, but now even RTW labor cost to much and they send it out to slave labor country's.

The UAW cites 2008 models. Some production of the two Toyota models the Corolla and Tacoma were built at NUMMI in Fremont, CA at that time. NUMMI is in the process of being closed and production of these models has been shifted to non union plants.

Yeah and then when the right to work for less in this state workers make too much, production will be shifted to the Toyota plants in Mexico and the other third world countries.
Wonder where all the money that is saved in worker salaries, benefits, taxes and fees goes? After all the price of the vehicle that the US consumer, that just lost his job, pays never goes down. Pretty soon very few will be able to buy the very products that they once had job building.
Race to the bottom, no winners in this race!

I think Obama got it. That extra money You're talking about. They absorb our debt with it then we pay Bukku interest on it. Either way we lose..Great idea freetrade with countries who don't sell much of our stuff over there...They got a helluva racket going on....but we just keep trying to please them..Till all the money's gone. I don't like Jap cars. i don't care where they make'em. Even Mack trucks is owned by foreigners. It's ridiculous anymore.
