    Default Local 315 Dispatch...Real Joke!

    Below is the way another Local in Joint Council 7 does business when it comes to dispatching. And it is a GOOD way. But Local 315 has a way that really makes it an inconvenience for members. Especially if you are out of town or out of state. At 315 you have to personally go to the Union Hall and re-sign up on the list even if you have not been dispatched. Plus there are and have been members that have refused a dispatch and are NOT scratched. WHY? I think alot of us members wood like to know. If you go to the monthly meeting and bring up this sort of subject, the Officers do not want to discuss it. They (officers) made the rules not the members. Yes the list is barely moving do to the economy, that is understandable. But now some members are taking what ever job they can get as to non-union but, Have to take the risk of either coming in late or take a day off just to keep there name on the "Dispatch List." Why not just call-in and give our info to dispatch to hold our spot. Have our Business Agents forgot what it is like to not work because of being laid off. Hmmm, I really wonder. Anyway, I am venting with depression of not working. I hope this gets back to our Local 315 and the Officers can be a bit more reasonable. Yet, I am damn proud to be a TEAMSTER. Pleas check out the below rules of that other local. One other thing. Local 315 use to show what Companies it represented like some others. Not no more....Hmmmm!
    The West Bay office: 151 West 20th Avenue, San Mateo CA 94403
    Call in will be on the first Monday of the following months: April, August and December. When calling in for dispatch, your I.D. number is your Social Security number. Please give the dispatcher your SS#.

    A new dispatch list will then be established. You will be listed by date and time in the order in which you call or sign in.

    You will be scratched if :

    You are dispatched for a job;
    You refused a job;
    You are not available for dispatch during the dispatching hours of 7:00 A.M. to 9.00 A.M. Monday through Friday;
    You are hired from a dispatch job, interview or application referral.
    Scratched people may sign up again on any list at any time once they are available. It is your responsibility to notify the Local Union. There are three (3) lists:

    The "A" list: this list is for dues-paying members and is the first to be dispatched.
    The "B" list: This list is for members on withdrawal and is the second list to be dispatched.
    The "C" This list is for non-members and is the last list to be used for dispatching.

    Thank you "Slavenomore." For those that do check out local 315, go to the "dispatch" page. You will see what I mean after you read the rules for this local. It has been this way for just over a year now. How do all other locals do there dispatching? Perhaps this can be a constructive subject for all of us through out the United States and Canada.

    Seems like you have presented a viable solution to correct a problem.

    Thanks "Westcoast." Now, if I were to bring this subject up at our monthly membership meeting it would very likely not want to be heard by the officers. I guess I'm gonna have to take a deep breath and present this as a proposal. If any of you brothers and sisters got some constructive advice, please feed it to me. Now, if there is to be a way to let those out of work members hear me out. The only way I can think of is to stand outside on that Monday and pass out a flyer for those in support of this to attend the meeting to back me up. I am not trying to cause any problems. But, even just driving to our local we have to spend money on gas just to sign up on the list(s) to hold our place. A phone call is cheaper. We can pay our dues over the phone. I don't understand why they have written to do it is now. To me and others I have spoken with agree. Hmmm...

    I have discussed this not long ago. Got nowhere with them. You are one of the lucky ones that are working yet able to retire.
