Workers and activists in the Capital Region plan a rally Wednesday from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in Townsend Park to seek Congressional action on the nation’s shortage of jobs. Among the steps they’ll be seeking is an extension of the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Emergency Fund, which will expire at the end of September, as well as support for the Local Jobs for America Act.

The rally is part of a nationwide push by the Jobs with Justice coalition. Participating organizations include the Capital District Labor-Religion Coalition, the Labor-Religion Coalition of New York State, the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists/Capital District Area Labor Federation, the New York State Apollo Alliance, Bethlehem Neighbors for Peace, and the Hunger Action Network of New York State. Townsend Park is at Henry Johnson Boulevard and Central Avenue in Albany.
