    Gov. Andrew Cuomo met Tuesday evening with leaders of the AFL-CIO, who raised their very public concerns about the governorís proposal to change the new pension system, but said he would not negotiate with them over his proposed changes. Several key legislators, including Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, have said they wonít support changes that donít have the thumbs-up from organized labor.

    Not to be redundant..NY, NJ, Ill and Calif are run by the public unions..for the public unions..careening towards insolvency

    ALBANY ó Gov. Cuomo is considering exempting city cops and firefighters from his push for pension reform, the Daily News has learned.
    The governor had proposed keeping in place a provision allowing cops and firefighters to retire after 22 years with half pay. Payouts to NYPD and FDNY retirees in 2011 made up 46% of the cityís

    For future hires, he sought to increase employee contribution rates, payouts and require cops and firefighters to be on the job for 12 years before becoming pension-eligible ó instead of the current 10.

    City correction officers union boss Norman Seabrook already launched a fast-and-loose-with-the-facts spot accusing the state and city of trying to ďeliminate pensionsĒ for public workers.
