Default 2 California cities approve pension cuts

Obviously this is a trend that is going to continue and I don't see anything stopping it.

Opponents, led by public employee unions, say the measures deprive workers of benefits they were counting on when they got hired. Some workers decided against potentially more lucrative jobs with private companies, figuring their retirement was relatively safe.

"This is part of a broader effort to attack workers and to make their lives miserable," San Diego Councilman Todd Gloria said during a debate on the San Diego measure.

"We believe people are tired of having services cut back because of big pensions," San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders, a Republican who is being forced from office by term limits, said recently.
The article didn't say if the mayor and councils pensions would be included in the cuts

Good point 2631. I keep saying that everyone is going to milk this 2008 crash for all it's worth. But eventually our economy will turn around and then what are they going to use? Guess it won't matter because our unions will be gone or so weak they won't be able to fight for anyone anymore.

And yet they always blame it on teachers, policemans and fireman making to much money.

No I didn't see that but I remember this. Of course this was illegal activity but again, the managers make out like bandits! Until they got caught that is.

In NJ the politicians have the game rigged. Only politicians can retire from their double and triple dipping government jobs, collect their full pensions and still continue working and be paid their full salaries. Sure the state and county governments save money because since they are technically retired the pension funds have to foot the bill by providing free lifetime medical insurance.

But Chris Christie, the darling of the right and potential VP nominee hasn't done anthing about it. Maybe thats because its not about unions. Its a loophole only for politicians.
