    Default Pensions and their future

    https://www.tdu.org/news/opposition-needs-grow-now

June 7, 2013: A dangerous proposal that would change federal law to allow "deeply troubled" pension plans to slash the benefits of retirees could be introduced into Congress as soon as this summer.

The time is now for opposition to eliminating the federal law known as the "anti-cutback rule." It is clear that the "deeply troubled" plans would include the Central States Pension Plan.

Just when I get started and now I have to read this..

The dangerous proposal is part of a package put forward by the National Coordinating Committee for Multiemployer Plans (NCCMP). Hoffa is on the board of directors, and Central States Director Thomas Nyhan and Teamster Int'l V.P. John Murphy are on the Steering Committee. UPS is a prominent supporter.
Why am I not surprised that Hoffa is on board with this proposal? Hell he already made his fortune. He sold out our pension funds when he allowed UPSF/Overnite to sign a separate contract and allowed them their own pension fund.

You and I both predicted the downfall of the NMFA and our MEPFs when Hoffa first proposed the separate contract for UPSF. Back then there were many who believed that Hoffa still cared about freight and that he knew what was best for us. They were saying that the UPSF contract would be just as good as, if not better than, our NMFA. Now look where we are today. IMO both the NMFA and our MEPFs are on life support and Hoffa is ready to pull the plug on our retirees................I don't know any freight Teamsters who still believe in Hoffa. I lost faith in him back in 2004 when he claimed to be out of town on other union business and denied knowing about the Red Star strike.

My husband was not a Teamster back then but I have seen enough, just since 2006 when he did become a Teamster that has convinced me that Hoffa does not care about freight Teamsters. It is baffling to me how he can so easily destroy everything his father built.

DEREGULATION is the culprit, we all know that everybody undercut everyone till what we got now. There is a Fine line that Hoffa can't walk between the companies and its above my pay grade, heck right now everything is above that!!!

I have to disagree with you on that. I don't see where that fine line is for Hoffa. Deregulation is a reality that has been ongoing for 20 some years. Hoffa knew that before he took office. If the Overnite workers had been put in the NMFA like they had wanted it would have started a new era in Teamster organizing. But since Hoffa chose to give UPSF a sweetheart contract it put an end to any further organizing in the NMFA. Therefore no new contributions into our MEPFs.

If the IBT ever decides to organize the FedExs and Conways etc. they will demand the same individual contracts as Hoffa gave UPSF. I don't see where the fine line is. IMO he knew exactly what he was doing when he threw us under the bus.

Sweet heart deal for UPS cuz Hoffa knew how unhappy all UPS employees were cuz they could get better pay on their own contracts NMFA was gonna hold them down! Not to mention UPS paying to get out of central states.

That may be true, but it's not what the Overnite/UPSF drivers that I knew wanted. It's not what they fought for. They wanted to be in the same NMFA contract that we had. The same contract that ended when ours did. They wanted the strength and unity of the NMFA. When they asked the local B/A about the NMFA they were told that it wasn't going to happen. But that they would get a contract just as good if not better than the NMFA

You and I may differ on that but there is one thing thats for sure. Hoffa's UPSF deal killed any chance of another major freight carrier joining the NMFA and our pension funds
