Default Hoffa to Freight Teamsters: Quit Bothering Me

October 17, 2013: ABF Teamsters in the Central Region are voting on authorizing a strike, but it's a phony proposition. The International union has not put forth any issues or demands to strike for!

Instead, Hoffa and the Freight Division have simply denounced the Central Region members for voting No twice, and tried to divide other freight Teamsters against them.
Meanwhile, YRC management is asking Hoffa for an extension to the concession contract. Hoffa's appointee to the YRC Board, Harry Wilson, is leading the charge for the company. No word yet on what the Hoffa administration will do.

As far as the YRC part of that story goes, our local sees the next contract as "business as usual". Our pension fund is in the same building as our local. Our BA plans on having meetings with our terminal about a year before the APril 2015 Contract. ANd all proposals must be in by 6 months prior to it.
I've spoken to him more than once about it and this is his plan. Same as other contracts. Our Local president has also assured me of the same at least 2 times. They are good at watching the fund. They got more money back from YRC than any other local when YRC was not paying what they said they would after the MOU..They get a higher contribution than maybe all the locals because of a lawsuit in Philly. The Central PA Fund. So they would be VERY concerned if their was opportunity for YRC to extend the concessions without vote as the TDU rumour was circulating. That is a rumour and I was told that TDU is not always very accurate, and their will not be an extension without a vote. As far as our Local's facts go, the contract goes until the 2015 contract stuff goes on like i typed above.
Also was told that YRC is and has been paying as they are supposed to, into the fund.

TDU has mentioned this before and as I see it it is still nothing but a rumor... Starting to wonder if TDU is just trying to stir the pot a little... I would imagine that the IBT monitors TDU and most likely these message boards and it sure would be nice if they actually came out and denied it or said yes it is true...

I believe my Local Officials are being honest. They watch the fund closely and an extension would be a concern to them. Somebody did joke and say "maybe TDU is trying to get more members" perhaps they get some more members and contributions when they circulate this stuff.

We as freight teamsters....The once backbone of this union are nothing but a thorn in their side. We have difficult contracts to negotiate. We have premium wages and bennies. We are just a gasping piece of history to Hoffa and crew. It saddens me to think that his fathers crowning achievement doesn't warrant any more thought than what we are getting from the IBT right now. All of us. UPS, ABF, and the YRC companies. The resolution he was beating his chest over at the national convention to organize FredEx hasn't received much press either. Just as I thought.
