Default Selling Post Offices or Union Busting

On Nov. 10, in a deal that has been in the works at least since March, the USPS announced it was launching a pilot program to put postal retail units in Staples stores across the country. Some sites opened quietly in October and others have opened in the last two weeks...

Eighty four trial sites have been selected, and many of them are already in operation - one in Berkeley, California just a few blocks from my house. The Post Office counters are being served by low-wage Staples employees, not living-wage Postal Service workers.

There are 500,000 Postal Service jobs. If they all become McJobs a lot of bad things will happen. Labor will lose another big chunk of its still-decreasing unionized segment. Assuming a $20K cut it pay per worker, $10 billion in paycheck spending per annum will vanish, while another bunch of people will be relying on government subsidies for food and health care. If the Postal Service is privatized you can be sure that prices will increase and service in remoter areas will decrease.

Seems any way they can find around paying union employees, the employers will do just that!!

And more good paying jobs with disposable income go by the wayside. The economy will continue to suffer, and the rich get richer. They have their foot on the throat of the middle class and when the Unions are gone, they will crush the life out of us.

Up in the mountains where I live, we have never had postal workers deliver our mail. They have always been contractors that drive their own vehicles.

I was working for a mail contractor a few years ago on my days off. A line run to Montana and back. It was a very good job too. I took the no bennies option and put it all in my pocket. This was a very good job for around here.

There is a large contractor in my area. Pay is excellent, hours are short and the same "no bennie" option is available.
    No shortage of drivers either.

When my wife still had her store open she had the UPS shipping account and when Staples came in it put a hurting on her business.. If they had any thing beyond just shipping they would send them to my wife.. They didn't have a clue about shipping.. The Post Office will be run the same way The Staples employees will be clueless.. Ole saying is "you get what you pay for"....

That all goes back to the "you get what you pay for" saying. "Quality" is a product and it still sells. Our little post office has a professional group of clerks. They are very helpful and know their shipping business. It's USPS or UPS for this family. If I had a package to ship going to the south pole and my only options were FredEx, I would opt to hand deliver it before I gave them the business. Union busting scumbag Fred Smith can go to hell.

I have noticed many companies will be glad to give your shipment to another carrier if you ask.
I just had a shipment come in from Indianapolis, my third purchase from this company.
The first came UPS, the second came Fedex and the dummy left the box up side down on my step. It contained oil.
On my next order I complained about the delivery service ( the box even had arrows pointing up ) and asked if UPS could deliver again ... and they said YES, no problem.
Just ask first, is the best advice, for any shipment ordered for delivery.
