Re: Weingarten Rights - Request for a Shop Steward
I don't know what your contract or your company proceedure is for vacation request but all of our vacation request must be ok'd by the manager. As such if your vacation was allowed before you were given your day off then I would fight such day off after the companies time limit to file a new request for a day off for what ever reason it was given making their day off invalid and must be removed from your file. Feel free to contact me and I wil try to explain it. Some times a boss jumps to soon as my little green buddy HBF would say.

Re: Weingarten Rights - Request for a Shop Steward
Here is my experience. I have been a steward for three years now, and I have to tell you, I really think, this is probably a five year minimum apprenticeship.
Learn to write effective grievances. Who, what, where, when. Also, why you know this violation has merit. The rest advocate at the table. Remember the company must provide you with the requested evidence forthwith, in accordance with the new language in Article 7. If you can prove this information would help prove your case, the committee must rule against the company.
Stay focused, and keep up to date on JAC decisions that will have an impact on your grievances.
Just remember whose side your on, always. The company can take care of themselves. We take care of our guys to the very best of our ability. Stay in contact with your agent. Always when in doubt, consult with your BA.
The training part never ends. Best wishes.

Re: Weingarten Rights - Request for a Shop Steward
You are so very right Bro. The companies never stop their efforts to train management in ways to circumvent any and all aspects of a contract and we must never stop training our reps in ways to see that it is complied with in all aspects. The training part never ends.

Re: Weingarten Rights - Request for a Shop Steward
8 out of 12 But I haven't been working since about three years ago so I could have just plain forgot.
Heres what I did and why :
My Bad.I should have known better.5. An employee is called to his supervisor’s office, but the steward is on vacation. Can that employee insist that an interview be delayed until the steward’s return?
No. If a union representative is not available, another representative or employee can be substituted. However, if the employer is responsible for that representative not being available, then the supervisor must end the meeting until the representative is available.
Your Answer: [YES]
I always thought you could ask for a lawyer in any case.Guess I was wrong.7. Can an employee ask for a lawyer during an investigatory interview?
No. Weingarten Rights only apply to union representation.
Your Answer: [YES]
I didn't think you were allowed to just walk out.I just figured that you didn't have to answer any questions .9. A manager denies an employee his/her Weingarten Right, yet continues to ask questions. Can the employee just walk out?
In some cases. If the manager consistently denies the request, the employee may leave to get a steward, but not if the manager asks the employee to wait until a steward arrives.
Your Answer: [NO]
I knew you could during pre interview but I didn't think once the test itself started because I always thought the person doing the test was an independant tester.10. Can Weingarten be invoked during a polygraph examination?
Yes. An employee may be represented during the pre-examination as well as the test itself.
Your Answer: [NO]

Re: Weingarten Rights - Request for a Shop Steward
here is a tidbit of useful advice for any brother or sister.
anytime a supervisor wants to talk to you aside, ask for a steward. if there is no steward, take somebody with that can help you fight the verbal battle should you need it.
best to wait for the BA or the steward. they can cut off the interview with impunity. and save your ash, if it needs saving.
