Re: TDU, & A Presidential Endorsement?
I choose to concentrate my efforts regarding the TDU, in areas where I can make the most positive impact. Sorry, for your disappointment, but such is life.
I don't have to push the issue, People reach out all the time. You and I have a very clear choice of difference of opinion. Although, I like a good debate, the outcome needs to be more productive to keep my interest for any length of time.
I value everyone's insight here on the forum, the diverse range of topics, views, and issues, are nothing short of great. I am glad I was laid off, because without the closing of my company, I may not have found the site. Lets just keep it civil from here on out.

Re: TDU, & A Presidential Endorsement?
The IBT endorsed Obama. That makes no difference whatsoever to me. Hoffa can come out and pat anyone on the back he chooses, they do not speak for me. It's no different than a celebrity endorsement. Yes, they may be using "my" money to donate to the candidate, but I pay for a million and one things that I have no say over. it's just another tax as far as I'm concerned. I pay for this war in Iraq, though I'm not particularly for it either. When the IBT announced they were supporting Obama, I greeted that with a great big yawn and a hearty "who cares?"

Re: TDU, & A Presidential Endorsement?
Historically, unions endorse candidates that do nothing for them in return. we give our money, time, volunteers, and unwavering support to mostly democrats, and what do we get when they get into office? a big slap in the face at worst, or silence at best. labor law reform? striker replacement bans? universal healthcare? all sunk under clinton, a dem that almost all unions got behind and campaigned heavily for. and what did the teamsters and patco get for their endorsement of reagan in 1980? well patco was smashed completely out of existence by reagan, ruining the lives of the 11,000 members of that union that were out on strike, and the ibt got???? deregulation? rapidly declining membership? a union that rapidly lost power and any say at the national political level? what a stupid move by the leaders back then.
we as trade unionists need to hold our politicians accountable, specially if we endorse them, give them our money and our time. although i dont think that obama is that great, i do think that it is up to us to demand that efca get passed, with his active support, and that we get a universal, single payer health care system passed, like hr 676, not healthcare for america now!, also with obama's active support.
