Question House Passes Bill to Halt Mexican Trucks Program

Quote:
House Passes Bill to Halt Mexican Trucks Program

The House voted 395-18 late Tuesday to halt the Department of Transportation’s year-old program to allow Mexican trucks free access to U.S. roads.

“This bill will force the Administration to stay true to its word that this program will remain a short-term, limited experiment,” said Rep. James Oberstar (D-Minn.), chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and a co-sponsor of the legislation.

The head of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration called the vote “irresponsible” and said the U.S. needed to honor its international commitments.

“At a time of surging exports and growing demand by U.S. truck drivers for new opportunities, it is simply irresponsible for Congress to deny American drivers the opportunity to compete in Mexico and American shippers a more efficient and timely way of getting their goods south,” FMCSA Administrator John Hill said in a statement.

Time and time again, our elected and appointed officials continue to let the American people down. When will we put a stop to Special interest groups, runnig rough shot acrooss our great country?

I can only imagine the number of trucking jobs this program has cost the American people. I used to think, that even if an official was bad in their first term, we could simply deny them a second. But now I realize, that putting them in a position of power at all, can be very damaging.

It sure does make one wonder, what the hell is going on?

What they don't bother telling you is that even with this program operational, Mexico has strict limits as to how many American trucks are allowed to "compete" in Mexico. Mexican transportation leaders aren't as stupid as our transportation leaders are, they won't cut their own throats. Sometimes it seems the Trucking Industry here is determined to put themselves out of business, or at least put YOU out of THEIR business!

It seems, they would rather have a non-union workforce. And rake in all that extra profit. Go figure.
