You have got to see the concessionary plays being made here, The losses that Teamsters in freight , carhaul, and others are facing, amount to a huge transfer of wealth back to the employers.
What kind of Teamster Leader would not only allow that to happen, but help initiate it, even offer bonuses to make it happen, in the case of carhaul. Which happens to my field of expertise.
Because he is a Teamster, is the biggest reason he should not be letting this happen. One Teamster should NEVER do this to another. I am sick over this. Lead the membership to victory, OR GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY!!!
How nice that you have retired, Guess thats the biggest reason, that these bad contracts don't affect you as much as the current men, and women of the labor force.

Re: TDU opinions
Everyone seems to focus on Paff. Frankly I don't give a flip about him. My concern is for the rank and file, who ARE Teamsters. They are being treated like the proverbial Red Headed Stepchild by so many in IBT who want to look down their noses at them. Damn it, they're Teamsters, as much so as you or me, and deserve the respect that we all have for each other here! There's a lot to be said about that post about Jackie Presser and the rest of the old guard after Jim Sr. who did nothing but rape this union and give us the Consent Decree we all love so much. Were they better than Carey? I think they may well have been worse...much worse. Carey may or may not have known what was going on, but there is no doubt about the others. To this day, whenever someone hears the name Teamsters, they think of Mob ties. It may be ancient history, but it all happened under those good, stand-up Teamster's watch. I, myself am tired of the TDU bashing, let's concentrate on building up this union and helping ALL Teamsters move forward.

Re: TDU opinions
All they can do is, help rank and file members to ask more from their elected officials. Thats the limits to their power. They have no current power to negotiate, legislate, nor mediate. They show members how to communicate on a national level, so the many seperate divisions of the IBT wokforce, can be all on the same page, when it comes to the issues.
I don't like the bi-directional bashing either, but it's the tactic both sides employ. Neither side holds the key to the others destruction, neither side holds the threat of mutually assured destruction. There is no deterent in place, to stop the assaults on each other.
Maybe when the overall membership of the Teamsters, has an equal amount of manpower, that are TDU and not TDU. there can be a rational solution to the problems. Believe me, that day is coming, slowly but surely. Members want more for their dues, and more from their leaders...
We are starting to demand it...
