Angry Why We Will Never Win An Article 43 & 44 Grievance!

It is my view and those of several others that we will never win an Article 43/44 grievance. Why?

    1. The price of diesel fuel is too high and will probably go higher.

    2. Outside carriers can do it cheaper since they don't have to pay their drivers as much $$$ and benefits.

    3. UPS is the biggest user of intermodal transportation in the world.

    4. We don't have the equipment to effectively set up a line haul network and probably couldn't afford the equipment since we have financial constraints. Also a road line haul network separate from our meets and turns require a management group to over see(i.e. more costs)

    5. Most of our drivers don't want to be out for more than a day(if that)

A new tractor is around 100k depending on how many a company buys/leases. I heard recently that our operating ratio is 106 but can't prove it. If any part of this company grows, it will be the city fleet and truckload.

    Just my dime!

Lets see now, there is a contract in place, so why would the union not be able to enforce it? Maybe I'm missing something.

Bet that UPS management has every intention of enforcing the contract in UPS's favor.

Goes both ways, but as soon as the employees give up, assume defeat the company has won.

The Teamsters Union was not built upon defeat, it was built upon fighting for what is right.

I am going to address number 5.

If the company posts a bid for a sleeper team or lay over road run and it falls to a guy(on the seniority list) who has no choice but to take it and he refuses, he will be FIRED! Simple as that. And no union in the world will be able to get his job back for him.

Let me think, my choices would be taking a 3 or even a 2 trip lay down run or sitting at home. I think I know which one will pay the bills and its not a hard choice for me.

Steward, I agree with your post HOWEVER the company planners have said that since the majority of the drivers DON'T WANT TO RUN LAYDOWNS they have started to plan runs with out a lay down component.
Supposedly many drivers have said they won't run team either so again the company is "forced" to plan around this--i.e sub-contractors!

It is my feeling that if every large hub had wild teams available, then the subs would go away. What needs to happen is that if they re-start wild teams, the drivers that bid on them know full well what is required of them. This would keep those who only look at the money aspect from bidding on team only to then say to local management or Central, I don't want to go there or I don't want to do that!
