    Default UPS and UPS Freight Supplemental Committees Continue Talks With Company

    National Negotiations Begin Jan. 22

    As the union prepares for UPS and UPS Freight national talks to begin in January, supplemental committees have been meeting over the course of the last two months to exchange proposals and engage in bargaining sessions with the company.

    Out of the roughly 30 supplemental meetings held since October, common issues that have been raised by the company include flexible workweeks and the day after Thanksgiving holiday. Several more supplemental committees are scheduled to meet before the end of the year.

    “The Package Division and the National Negotiating Committee are preparing for national negotiations and we are ready to bring many of the proposals we heard from members to the bargaining table next month,” said Denis Taylor, National Negotiating Committee Co-Chairman and Director of the Teamsters Package Division.

    Teamsters, UPS Wrap Up First Week of Contract Negotiations

    The Teamsters National Negotiating Committee wrapped up the first week of negotiations today after both sides exchanged initial UPS and UPS Freight contract proposals.

    “This week was for both sides to present their initial non-economic proposals and for both parties to ask questions about their intent,” said Denis Taylor, Director of the Teamsters Package Division. “While these proposals are likely to be amended as negotiations proceed, it was good to finally present the members’ positions. We will reconvene our talks next week in Virginia.”

    While the negotiations have just started, Taylor said the National Negotiating Committee reiterated its resolve to protect members’ interests.

    UPS and UPS Freight Teamsters Taking Active Role As Negotiations Set To Resume February 19

    As the Teamsters National UPS and UPS Freight Negotiating Committees prepare to resume contract negotiations on February 19, members are continuing to take an active role and asking questions.

    More than 20,000 Teamsters joined the UPS and UPS Freight contract negotiations update call on January 28, and scores of members left questions after the call.

    Many of the questions addressed health, welfare and pension benefits, part-time pay, full-time jobs, harassment, excessive overtime, managers taking bargaining unit work and other important topics. Members were able to ask questions and then leave a message with a question after the call for the Division to review. Below are the most frequently asked questions.

    IMO this is not the number one issue........

    "Q: We continue to see road runs being moved by subcontractors at UPS Freight. Are we going to address that?
    A: Yes. This has been an ongoing problem at UPS Freight. We have specific proposals to deal with subcontracting - It is the number one issue at UPS Freight."

    What it's a problem now because the union is losing jobs to contractors, well guess what Hoffa/Hall you allowed it in the first place, what did they think UPS would do with language that let's them use contractors, abuse it, they sure will, UPS abuses everything, beside we have much bigger fish to fry right now IMO..

    P.S. remember they had us revote last time when we voted the contract down and they had that language in the contract to allowed them to use contractors, now they want us to strike because of it(rumor, has it), why didn't we do it last time, what has changed? they are losing members? because of language that they allowed,really. If am going to strike a lot more things must change in this next contract than the use of contractors, a lot more.....

    Nothing is gonna change,...

    hoffa and his goon squad will puff out their chests and pound on them a bit,..

    Then they will tuck tail and run to the members saying it's the best thing ever,.....

    And the members will vote no until hoffa and the goon squad make it so, (remember last time?).....

    Selling us all out over and over and over again,..............

    And we pay dearly to the bosses to make it so,.............

    FIRST A BROWNOUT, NOW A CRACKDOWN

    Hoffa’s Package Division has expelled a member of the National Negotiating Committee for breaking the Information Brownout on contract negotiations. Members have a right to know about their contract. Teamsters United is not backing down.

    “The IBT has told us not to communicate to our members about their contract. That will never happen,” said Fred Zuckerman, the leader of Teamsters United and President of Louisville Local 89 which represents more than 10,000 UPS and UPS Freight Teamsters.

    After the last round of contract negotiations, Mike Rankin, Local 89’s representative on the UPS Freight National Negotiating Committee, posted a contract update on Facebook.

    Rankin criticized UPS for pleading poverty and dragging its feet in negotiations. He praised the union’s strong bargaining proposals, saying they would result in a good contract if the IBT will stand behind them – and he promised that he and others would not remain silent if the bargaining proposals were watered down.

    Teamsters Make Further Progress During Third Round of UPS Contract Negotiations
    The Teamsters National UPS Negotiating Committee continued to make progress on a variety of issues as the third round of contract negotiations with UPS and UPS Freight wrapped up today.

    “We made further progress on a number of non-economic issues,” said Denis Taylor, Director of the Teamsters Package Division and Co-Chairman of the Teamsters National UPS Negotiating Committee. “We look forward to more progress when we resume negotiations next week.”

    Among other issues, the following were on the table this week:

    Article 12, Polygraph/Timeclocks; dealing with members’ rights to receive copies of ODS messages;

    Article 17, Paid For Time; dealing with members’ ability to review hours and rates of pay as well as confirmation and identification of grievance payments;
    The Committee introduced a proposal dealing with Hours of Service for Package Drivers;

    The Committee made further progress on Article 37, Section 1A, Harassment;
    The Committee continued its discussion on the work week; a supplemental issue that the National Committee is coordinating.

    In addition, subcommittees continued to meet in conjunction with the National Committee dealing with topics such as Leave of Absence, Temporary Alternate Work, and the Hazardous Materials Handling Program

    “At UPS Freight negotiations, the union committee continued to make progress on several issues, including CDL training and grievance procedures,” said Kris Taylor, Co-Chair of the Teamsters National UPS Freight Negotiating Committee.

    UPS CONTRACT CONFERENCE CALL

    Join Fred Zuckerman and concerned Teamsters for a national conference call on Sunday, March 11. Get an update on national contract negotiations and make plans to build Teamster unity to win a good contract.

    It’s contract time and we need to show the company that we are sticking together as Teamsters.

    Fred Zuckerman will update members on the company and union bargaining proposals. We’ll discuss UPS Teamsters United action plans to inform members about what we’re fighting for—and to send management the message that we are not settling short.

    The UPS Freight contract fight will also be discussed.
