    Default Card Check

YRC will not sell any of their companies......YET. Every union company is waiting for the "Card Check" vote by the next Congress early next year. So, all of the union companies are in a "holding" pattern as long as they can survive. If Card Check passes, you will see a vastly different work force next year. It will level the playing field for all union companies, because more companies will become union.

Why? It's simple: As all of you know, Non-union companies have a huge advantage vs union companies. Wages, plus health and welfare keep union company's bottom lines much more narrow than their non-union counterparts.

Management has used scare tactics against the unionization of their companies since deregulation in 1982. That has decreased union membership dramatically as everyone well knows.

Management using scare tactics to fend off the union all these years whenever a "secret vote" is on the table is wrong.

I am torn on this issue. I don't want people to lose their right to vote through a secret ballot. However, every single time a workforce wants to unionize, management uses scare tactics in heavy doses to stop the union from coming in. That isn't right either. This has put more money in "Corporate" pockets through bonuses and raises the past 26 years. I have no problem with corporate executives getting their fair share. However, I do have a problem that they are getting millions of dollars on their way out the door before the company closes its doors.

So, the way I see it, the "Secret Ballot" isn't very secret when management pulls every trick in the book to try and discourage it's workforce to unionize.

We must make company leaders accountable again. There needs to be more transparency in regards of what they are doing with OUR company. It's not just their company, it is OUR company. This is an equal relationship: we need them, and they need us. Yellow/Roadway makes them more money, because it sells and they know it.

We shall wait and see how Congress votes. That, I feel, is when our fate will be decided.

Until then, UNLESS management takes the same cuts that they want us to do, with no bonuses and raises until this tidal wave passes over, I will vote no on a wage reduction.
