Default If you are in lay off at a loosing location.

I personally think if you are in lay off at a loosing location, and no more than 10 deep into lay off you ought to be OK to keep a job over the long haul.

    Why?

Well if you have been reading you see the numbers of how many are being left at loosing locations is really cut to the bone. When the economy picks back up the company will almost need people on a immediate status.

At 671 the city was on a daily basis using extra help from pulling a dock man or switcher to run city. Since out break bulk is gone there will not be anyone to pull from the dock or yard. They have been moved to Charlotte, NC. On March 1 I will try to find out how many of the laid off city men work.

I think your right.. If all 22 leave where I am at I will still have 15 over me laid off but I think within 4 1/2 years it's a good bet I will be back, but in the next year and a 1/2 probably not...

i was told when i started if i ever got laid off and it was close to the line to stay there. and with the busy part of the season coming( and yes it will pickup) they will have to pull people back.

Its a tough call for anyone right now on the line. If i could sell my house id be gone in a second, but thats not looking good, so im stuck where im at :/

I was all geared up to bid out of BUF today and went to the terminal to turn in my bid out sheet and found that that we went from being an 85 man board to being a 109 man road board I would have been #75 out of 85 now I just moved up34 spots and thats a much better cusion. I noticed that they had a list from PGH hanging on the window ,my home town, and I could set pretty good on that board but it is a 1 line board and I am not a city or dock kind of guy so I think I'll just stay here in BUF and enjoy the snow and Ice.
I would also like to take this opertunity to thank my steward for his time and dedication to his job thru these tough times for keeping us well informed of the ongoing changes that seem to be minute by minute.

One thing to think about, is how many people are sick on vacation etc. I would suspect the company pared far deeper than needed to be safe and believe it or not, bank roll extra cash.

In Dallas our combined dock roster is in the 915ish with 710ish jobs. With all the dead,sick,m.i.a.,etc. the bid went to 803 ish. It now looks like 40 to 50 will be put back on as unassigned to fill gaps due to over-cutting and normal
attrition due to vacation sick etc.

I keep hearing all the dang doom and gloom on tv here there and every where. Quite frankly, I am fed up with it. Heck if I wasn't so much of an optimist, I would be inclined to believe it! Brothers, I do honestly believe we can pull this one out of the fire if the we pull together and keep our side of the street clean. Hopefully some of the dumb decision makers will see the light one way or the other.

It is not over, just a minor (ok MAJOR) hick-up. I believe if we all pull together like the teamsters we are we will be successful and have stock ownership that will be worth something after all.
