No. It actually reduces the number of Utility drivers by about 1/2. So it will actually create some road work.

I mean the fact they are bidding the positions a day prior to the master bid when then a road driver could have possibly bid the position. Now they will be locked out. And if you were near the cut off number any and all spots become important.

But this change is a "follow your work" change and a UE is just a city driver. We need to follow our work also. We had 5 city men bid from the city to the road last week. Before the road men bid. The 5 jobs were being lost from the city at my barn and were gaining them at the road at Charlotte.

I will tell you from experience. If you don't yet believe UE is just a reason to not only get regional business but also to cut road jobs them you have yet to see the full picture. We at ABF have lived this life for a couple of years. You are now with this UE change witnessing the loss of Road jobs and the displaced people not being allowed to take the UE jobs that will be displacing them. Why would YRC have a bidding date one day prior to the merger bid? Do you mean to tell me that nobody else is questioning this move? You see no harm in it. Just look at the Article in the NMFA. A city or dock worker can bid the position and keep their seniority and return to the city but not a Road Driver why? Because they are trying to eliminate the road as fast as possible. Our UE work has taken over so much of the work that used to be Road that in the closest break bulk to our terminal they have cut almost 200 road and dock jobs due to the economy and the UE positions. Why can't the bidding wait until after the bidding for the merge? Why can't the people that might be displaced by the UE jobs have a chance? But again if it does not bother you and the other people at YRC then it will not bother me. I just can;t see not letting seniority settle disputes. You see I have been a steward for years and I along with my TEAMSTERS have had many dealings on the matter of UE positions and I am just giving all of you a heads up. But if you are happy then I will be happy for you. YOUR BROTHER ALWAYS.
