Default Local 710 YRC Teamsters Vote No

October 15, 2009: In votes counted today, some 1,000 YRC dock workers again rejected the concession proposal, and by a larger margin than in August.

The rejection among dock workers was by a vote of 486-242. The janitors rejected it by 9-2, and the office workers passed their contract by a vote of 59-46. A number of concerned Local 710 Teamsters, from the office and dock, showed up to observe the count.

“We had a larger turnout, and a strong No vote,” said dock steward Joe Dutka. “Most of us feel we have given enough and at some point we need to hold our ground as Teamsters.”

I don't think that will be the case with the 710 TEAMSTERS!

I think you're right. Their last vote sent the message loud and clear.

I wish I could make it right for them because they have given the rest of us a look at what it means to stand for what you believe. I know there are those who are working due to the running around of the 705 and 710 Teamsters. But remember they stood for what they believed. YOUR HUMBLED BROTHER ALWAYS!

Just so you didn't miss this part of article.

Management followed up on such a threat in Cleveland this week, where they laid off 20 of 64 mechanics after those Local 964 Teamsters again rejected the concessions

If the company starts turning that place into a ghost town, what contract language would you use to try to stop this, or try to protect jobs at the barn? YRCW has the ability to do this.

I think this is not only a strong showing of solidarity, but an example that could and SHOULD be set by other barns. Here at 402 (Marietta Ga) there's a rumor going around for another 30 layoffs for a drop in business that should only merit about 8 (strictly a rumor!! That is NOT a confirmation!! Please realize that.). We've also just had a steward fired for "outrageous conduct and unauthorized slowdown/work stoppage". Well just when in the hell were you able to have a stoppage of one?! Our TM has said that yes he knows that the man will get his job back but he's gonna wait him out anyhow. The steward in question is NOT the kind of guy to be trifle with. So we're just see what happens there. Put all that on top of a mountain of runarounds and article 48 grievances ... Just kills me. Sorry fellas. Needed to vent a minute. Off the soapbox now.
