Default IBT Must Extend Leave of Absence Rules

May 12, 2011: In less than three weeks hundreds, if not thousands, of YRC Teamsters will lose their right to a leave of absence, unless the Teamster Freight Division takes action to stop this injustice.

The concession agreement with YRC includes a provision to allow any Teamster to take an unpaid leave of absence (LOA) to seek work that will protect their hard-earned pension benefits. That LOA provision expires June 1, because it was assumed that YRC would resume full pension contributions at that time.

For one of the few times in my teamster career I have to agree with the tdu. The agreement was for full reinstatement of the pension plan. A person that is at an employer that is paying into the plan at full rate, or even a higher rate should not be forced to return from an LOA.

Does the words in the third MOU that cover the LOA issue really call for "full reinstatement?"

A lot of people have left at our barn for jobs that pay into the pension, don't cut your pay and benefits and take away your vacation. As well as violates the contract all the time.We still have people on layoff but the company continues to out source our work. This is a way for yrc to keep good experienced workers and stop them from trying to keep in the peer program.
