    This all started back with Yellow and the Maury Meyers era. Stock options rather than a salary. Make the company "seem" viable. PM's pushed back. Extended to the point of being unsafe. This is the biggest fraud to ever come down the pike. They made millions off this practice. We now have to live with the aftermath of corporate greed.

    What gets me is they know full well guys are leaving the yard with faulty equipment, we have 1 service guy who has to pm 60+ tractors and forklifts, he used to have to fuel them all too but that's handled by a vendor now. His PM's consist of topping all fluids, changing oil, lubing joints, checking/changing tires and washing only tractors driven by suckasses!!! The vendor mechanic only works on what he knows which is all of nothing! When the CHP came to inspect they failed but were given time to correct the problem, BBTL had cracks in the frame, somehow it was able to pass but ended up in the "boneyard". What I think happened was the CHP cut them a break if they replaced that POS with a rental, wasn't until we got one did we pass inspection.

    Turn a blind eye to the problem. Phony bastards preach safety but don't want to practice it. Our yard speed is 10 mph. I hostled the dock a few time for these thieves and they did not like it. 10 mph is 2nd gear just above idle in a yard mule. Man, did they come unglued!

    We have the benefit of a really good shop. Advantage of being a breakbulk. 25 years ago the shop manager fought for the work. Now the manager vends out everything he can. 45 mechanics 25 years ago, 20 today. The vendors cost is 3 times what it is for our mechanics to repair anything. That is figuring our guys do it on a 6th punch!

    Labor costs isn't everything when you're a FedEx or a UPS. When you're a YRC it's the only thing. Vendors don't get pension contributions, sick days, vacations, personal holidays, teamster pay scale, time and a half, health care and other benefits etc. Do da math

    So you're OK with farming out Teamster jobs?

    Anyway, back to the original topic...drive cams. I believe cameras will be standard in the industry first
    by management, then by government mandate , just as e-logs are soon to be standard.

    Management will spin cameras as a safety tool, of course, never to be used to spy on
    or discipline drivers. As drivers protest and leave companies with drive cams, the trucking
    companies and camera industries will lobby politicians to mandate them. Follow the money trail.

    I don't make the big calls..or the small ones. I drove junk over 20 years before I got a new tractor thanks to the steward. YRC, the CSPF does what they do to stay in the game. I'm not okay with teamster job losses or pension cuts. . I lost a good teamster construction driving job because of cost cutting. A sell out to Westinghouse cost 150 union jobs. The good thing is the pension carried over. Stop and Shop in the local moved out at a cost of a couple hundred jobs. It's what they do when ever they can Who's gonna stop them?

    Back on topic we didn't have cameras. The TM did have one when he followed us. He took a pic or video of driver jogging who was out on comp. Never seen the driver a-gain.

    Already did the math for you buster. A long paper trail that sent a lying bean counter named Mike M. to the unemployment line. It is 3 X cheaper to have our mechanics do the work on a 6th punch. Connect the dots.

    It will be interesting to see who installs these drive cams. Personally, I would have the grievance already filled out. We'll see if they do the right thing.
