Default Taking Care of our Own

Yesterday, I had a 344lb package shipped up from Miami, Fla. The problem is, it didn't go on a Roadway truck. It seems that even for an employee with an employee discount, it was still twice as much to ship than with a non union ltl.

I hate myself for doing this, but I cannot fathom why our own company could not meet the pricing for one of their own. I also recently received a different package from Miami, that was dropped off at the Miami terminal, and I picked it up at my terminal, and got great pricing for that 200lb package. Why couldn't they extend that rate for origin to destination instead of terminal to terminal......or at least come close. I mean, seriously, how often do we ship large freight to ourselves? Does the company really have to make the same money on us as we do with regular customers? Hell, they are the ones getting 75% DISCOUNTS, I certainly didn't. Think about it, the trucks are already in the areas. They aren't going out of their way. It's just 1 more pickup & delivery in the entire scheme of things. Why couldn't they just match a price for one of their own?

For the record we are talking $300 vs $599.

The shipper got the best rate from Old D.

For even $50 more I would have used Big R, but twice the price?????
I hate that fact that i was forced into this decision, I mean, the item itself was $4700.

Amino, you have to tell the shipper who you prefer to use or not use .If the shipper has a preferred carrier they will use them you would get your best prices this way.If you wanted to use Roadway It would most likely come to you collect and they most likely have a employee discount...CRAZY

    Crazy,

the shipper would have used whoever I wanted. The bottom line is the best price Roadway would give me was twice as expensive.......including employee discounts. Several months ago, i did get great pricing, but only because the shipper was able to bring it to the origin terminal, and I was able to pick it up at my terminal. $92 for 200lbs, Miami, FL to Brooklyn, NY. The last item I shipped was 355lbs, strapped to 2 pallets. There was no way I could have had it dropped or picked up at the terminals, so it was picked and delivered by truck.
