Default This past few weeks bump in freight a fluke ?

I was wonderring how freight levels are in the next few days after the 4th, I know alot of the East coast shuts down for inventory around this time. Could the latest bump in freight be that buisinesses were dumping some inventory in order not to pay taxes on it ? Or is this bump a sign of better things to come ? Did YRC sales get some more accounts and some old ones back ? If you would let us know how things are moving in the next week or so. I just have a feeling that some folks who recieved a callback are gonna be disappointed in the next two weeks. I hope it is a sign of better times in freight but I also know July is one of the toughest months in trucking let alone LTL.. Any input in the next week or so is appreciated Thanks.

671 dock has been pretty full on Monday and Tuesday after the 4th. What is strange is the only thing getting loaded out for delivery is freight that is due for delivery that day and the rest sets there until it is due. This has been going on for a month or so.

    Hey Snortin'

Got called back two weeks prior to the 4th and ran like crazy and now here it is July 10 and I have had only one dispatch since returning home on the 5th. I have a feeling you may be right some of us will be disappointed again... just don't know how long this can go on...

I know I'm not in the right room, but over at your sister company (Reddaway), the week of the 7th has brought more freight than anybody can handle. They have brought city guys over who want to volunteer for line runs and have the hours.
Another great twist is that they brought Nor Cal drivers (scabs), deep into union territory as far as driving hours would let them. This would be all the way into Portland, OR. Since this against the bargaining agreement, the grievances will be flying as soon as I get some scab run info (trailers, dates, etc.) This will be my first big fact finding mission as a steward.

Oh well, gotta start somewhere, I can't ride the coat tails of the active members who give a sh!t forever.

Gotta respect anyone who is a steward as it takes alot of your personal time.I know I wouldn't want to do it but if nobody were to step up to the plate I would. It's a thankless job but a much needed one.

Thanks snorty, there's a cute little ditty that I put up on our union board at work. It goes a little something like this...............

Who are these of lowly pay, with haggard look and hair of gray?
They get no rest by day or night, they’re always wrong, they’re never right.
They do not have a law degree, but go to bat for you and me.
Though seldom have they been to college, they must possess the widest knowledge,
Of labor grades, and when to grieve, vacation pay and sickness leave.
Of overtime, and whose to do it, of coffee time and who’s to brew it.
The how and which and why and when, and all the problems of women and men.
If, with forepersons they agree, then they’re rats who’ve got weak knees.
If, to the workers they try to cater, they’re branded as agitators.
Those who have to take this slop, are called the stewards of your shop.
