    Default Linehaul.

Guys, I need some information about LINEHAUL. I have been offered a spot in linehaul, out of the Buffalo n.y. area. I have spent the last decade in the carhaul division.

I want to know as much about the job, as is possible. I thought my best bet would be to ask linehaul drivers for the info. I want to know about the duties, home time, pay scale, benefits, equipment, and anything else you can offer.

Thanks in advance for the help.

LP, you might PM snortin nortin about some of what you need to know. He works for the Big R out in Missouri when he isn't laid off. I can't think of any of our guys that run out of Buffalo right off the top of my head. I'll do some resaerch and see if I can find any others that might help you Bro.

I knew a guy who ran out of Chicago Height, he liked it. He ran to Cali. He was on a team. left out Sun a.m, got back Thurs. late, and made a ton of cash.

Well here goes and I am not a LineHaul driver. I am a city Driver but I know what they do.

Home time will be depending on the area of the country since contracts are different. Here I think the 3rd dispatch has to be home. No set days off unless you have a bid. Freight moves at night and new hire would be at the bottom of the list so plan on running on weekends. Be ready to roll when they call after your bed time is up. Pay the last time I knew was 55 cpm. Trucks are great considering company trucks and the new technology. (air ride cabs) At dark terminals you will have to drop and hook your doubles or van on your own and get paid. All in all it is probably not much different that running carhaul as far as how and when you go out.

Benefits such as insurance if you are under the NMFA we have the best Central States offers in our area. I bet the same paid holidays also.....

There are some retired and active LineHaul drivers here that can add to this. If you have to work and have a chance to get on at Roadway I would take it. The only other thing I might would consider is another LTL under the NMFA.

Every job has its draw backs....

I really don't have much more to add than what Teamster said, he pretty much laid it out as it is. We have a couple of road drivers at our buffalo terminal but I don't have any idea of where they run or how they do it. I know buffalo gets a whole lot of snow starting early in the fall so to be honest with you, I always avoided going there.
But I am wondering what the alternative is if you do not accept the linehaul? Is there something that might be better?
I'm not sure how many bids there might be out of your terminal, I have a feeling you might be extra board for a long time and that can be rough. But it will probably pay well and if you are young and strong you will make it. On the other hand, if there is little work, you will be hurting for awhile. So I don't know if there is a simple answer to your question?
